A little kid from Ireland moved to Manchester. At school one day, he was asked by his teacher who won the Battle of the Boyne. He replied, "Billy the Shit." The teacher got very angry and ordered him to the headteacher's office for his use of profanity. Another child came to his defence, saying, "Sorry, miss. He meant to say 'William the Turd'."

The problem is in today's youth they are bombarded with so much TV from Australia, America and alike that our use of the English language has become simplified. The influence is so great our own expansive and expressive use of our wonderful language is in danger of being lost. The dumbing down of pronunciation in the last few decades has led to many being unable to spell. Speak properly and you have an understanding of how the word is constructed.

Not knowing how to form words such as free or three is unbelievable. Example of simple teachings that help are Bring Brought, Buy Bought. So many allow these to pass them by.

I can't make my mouth sound different between free and three, and fink and think. Thor and four cause a problem also. No matter how hard I try I really can't do it. I blame growing up in a pub.

But why not? The forming of the words are completely different. Basic elocution.

I sat through an entire conversation without correcting someone who repeatedly pronounced hospital as "hoss-pickle", my patience was tried to the limit. What's worse is she was supposedly a healthcare worker.

I've got a girl in my department who does not understand simple grammar. I've forgotten how many times I have told her: "You'll! Not 'YOUR'! As in 'You'll have to learn this before I kick you' not 'Your have to learn this before I kick you'"

The girl drives me mental.

Another fella, also in my department, consistently says "I done this" or "They writ in".

I'm surrounded by cretins. On the plus side, as their manager, I have standing order in place which is that if I catch them abusing the English language they have to go and make me a cup of tea.

Very good, however I assume you have a standing order in place?

Your when people mean you're, or even you'll
"Should of" instead of "should have"

Americanisms:

"Right now", rather than "at the moment".

I enjoy people accidentally using mixed metaphors. Bloke in the office used to do it all the time: "keep that under your chest" or "keep that close to your hat" being the examples that come to mind. It was then pointed out ot me that I often say "your treading on thin ground" a lot. Oh dear.

these made me smile.

I was bored and wondered who would be first.
Another is people who say O instead of 0 like when they are saying their phone number.

It's a hard habit to break that one!

O is a letter, Zero is a numeric character.

Jara Reyes: When EVERYONE says it like YARRRRRRRR!!!-a

When people say 'I could care less', and then emphasize 'could' to make themselves sound like they are saying 'everyone says couldn't but I say could, because I'm right.' Does my f***ing nut.

Just been trying to read a consultant's report - this is reproduced verbatim. It looks like the consultant had quite a struggle with the English language ... and lost.

"... IT organizations, ... must support businessdriven goals of increasing revenues in emerging markets and improving margins in established ones. To achieve these goals, companies must execute well on a global scale and under volatile conditions. Success is heavily predicated on IT delivering the right business services on an equally global scale and facilitating access to reliable data. In view of these challenges, the top two agenda items cited by IT leaders in 2012 relate to core capabilities: improving alignment with the business and reducing technology complexity"
