Yeah, trouble is we did have to give details and paid £12 of the fine on the spot.

Any idea what the best grounds to appeal on are?

why didnt you just lie and get of at the next stop. You dont have to tell them anything, theyre not the police. I would have just walked offf down the train and told them to politely f*** off. What are they going to do - throw you off the train at the next stop? Hopefully!!

You are guilty as charged, and should be transported to the colonies.Obviously these train people are just picking on an easy target. They should be checking on those thieving blighters trying to avoid the £1000 train fare from Penzance to Kyle of Lochalsh.

First class is reserved for customers who dont want to sit with the riff raff in Standard class. The ticket inspector was only doing his job , keeping scummy oiks well away from the posh people.

Cheers for the advice so far.

Any chance we could appeal citing the ticket-man was probably bullied as a young child, beaten up by a tramp for his clothes, failed at school and thus craves power to mask his enormous failure of a life utilising his much-needed power to make himself feel important because he has nothing else going for him in the pathetic profession that is a retard who goes around processing tickets through his little gadget for 'offences' that are criminal in the tiniest sense of the word?

If you mention that he is probably a poster on NSC they might rule in your favour

Which would be fine if there was actually any difference between First and Standard class other than them throwing a small white bit of cloth over the headrest. At least in the old daze the landed gentry had their own compartment complete with sliding door to shut out the riff raff.

An internet message board full of people I know that I can explain my situation to in one post rather than telling them all individually. An internet message board I have turned to after asking for advice from plenty of people already. An internet message board that is typically useful in situations like this.

Yeah I can see what you're insuating there, and you've come across as thick as he did. Nice one.

I don't think its right that a company can ring someone up and check my name, dob, address, parents names etc.

Why not as you have committed an offence or perhaps you would prefer to have been arrested instead so they called the police ?

You are simply asking for help to avoid a situation you are clearly in the wrong for, had you not been in the 1st class compartment with a 2nd class ticket, this would not have happened, I don't think i am the thick one.

Appeal? You were in the WRONG.

What part of sitting in First Class and expecting to pay Standard Class fares don't you get?

Fcks sake.

Had the standard seating not been largely full we wouldn't have been in First Class and this would not have happened. Read my explanation again. We wouldn't have set their through choice of wanting 'better conditions' we sat there because of the situation we were in. Entirely different to what you are suggesting.

The situation you are advising is merely the convenience of sitting together. The fact is you sat in 1st class without a 1st class ticket which is an offence punishable with a fine which is what you got.

When you purchased the 2nd class ticket it gave you no right to a seat just a right to travel.

Bt your own admission Standard Class was not full. Just because you wanted to sit next to your mates is not a good enough excuse.

You were in the wrong and your whiney little outbursts are quite embarrassing.

Apart from the tea towel over the headrest you'll find that the seats dont have dogshit smeared on them where knobheads have put their feet up on the seats.

Not merely the convenience of sitting together, which as an aside was pretty important considering we needed to stick with each other, but the fact we were sat there for about TEN, yes TEN minutes and offered to leave straight after being told we were not allowed to sit there, despite there being very few seats on the train.

Yes but you chose to sit there and were caught there, simple as that. Oh and the comment about 40 year old blokes is boolox as I have seen pregnant woman being fined for sitting in 1st class.

If by embarrassing you mean 'sum up people whose occupation is something such as a ticket-man, but I won't admit that because I take personal offence to it' then yeah, you're spot on
