What's your favourite drop of red wine and your favourite white wine and your favourite British wine?

Red
Meself, I like a nice (as opposed to a rubbish) Chianti - one with the cockerel on the label. I can always go a bundle on a Rioja as well.

White
For white, I like Sancerre or a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, preferably from the Marlborough Hills region.

British
Got to plump for Bacchus from Camel Valley in Cornwall.

What about you all? What are you drinking?

Italian Gavi at the moment in the white corner - most refreshing and bootylicious!

Haven't touched a drop of red since I was up the duff, went off it and its never come back sadly...

How much virtual money have we got?

Red: I'd go for a nice Gevrey-Chambertin or a Brunello di Montalcino if I could, but I can't afford those in the real world. Probably Chateauneuf-du-Pape for a posh drink i can afford, and Rioja as something to quaff in quantity.

White: don't have a favourite, but I am partial to Gewurztraminer.

British, nay Sussex: Nyetimber.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Red would have to be a New Zealand Pinot Noir.

Hardly ever drink white bit if i did a simple Pinot Grigio would suffice.

Right now for red it's a 1994 Chataux Margeaux red, someone trying to get Paddy onside gave us a magnum of the stuff which will in turn be Christmas gifts since we are not huge wine drinkers, but we opened a bottle to see if the price tag is worth it. It is very nice, but not three figure nice.

Don't like white at all.

As for British, just about anything from Sharpham (Devon or Cornwall I think)

Being a pauper I'd say Cuvee Prestige from Tesco, taste a lot nicer than the price would suggest.

But a magnum is a single bottle, right?

Had a nice bottle of Sharpham (white) at Damien Hirst's place - http://www.11thequay.co.uk/ - on Saturday night. You're right - it's Devon.

That stuff is outstanding, and was the Chianti I had in mind. You're not going to get much change out of £30 for a bottle of that here.

I remember Lord Bracknell spitting corks at the fact that I could get it in the Co-Op in Umbria, rather than from a resepctable vintners. Even then, it was £15 a pop.

Yes, sorry, that should have read magnum crate. Some fancy wooden box, that is now a dolls house.

That restaurant is how we found Sharpham wine, never been myself but some friends did and then got some bottles for a party and so on.
