More likely to see Burkas in Mayfair (Gulf Arabs) than Whitechapel (British Bengalis).

Funny you should say that, I was taking my son up to Whitechapel/ Stepney yesterday to move into a house and whilst unpacking the car, a lady walked by in the most extreme burka I have ever seen. Don't know how she could even see as it didn't seem to have anywhere for her eyes to look out from.

I guess we need someone to arbitrate here. If only there was an NSC authority on LONDON to provide us with the definitive answer eh?
I do believe the original question was about individual posters favourite part of London , so there can't be a definitive answer , however if the situation arises I am obviously available as an arbiter on all things London :thumbsup:

Your point on Brightonian living in Portslade, I'm a Brightonian and I live in Newhaven. I was born in Brighton, grew up there and lived there most of my life.
If a Scouser leaves Liverpool to live in Brighton he is still a Scouser.

Sorry I'm not picking holes in your post it's just one of my pet hates, I'm proud to be a Brightonian.
This is an interesting point. I've lived in Brighton for most of my 50+ life, but am I Brightonian?

I have no idea what makes anyone anything to be honest. I guess if you were born and have lived in Brighton all your life then it's indisputable. But other than this I could not say. Interesting debate though.

I was born in Brighton and have lived in the city for a fair chunk of my life but I don't consider myself a Brightonian.

I think a Brightonian is like a Scouser, Geordie or a Bristolian, someone that was born in the town ( city for the younger people ) and grew up there, just my opinion.
I hear people referred to as Brightonians because they live in Brighton but were born and grew up and lived elsewhere for many years.
If I moved to Bristol tomorrow I wouldn't call myself a Bristolian.

You support Fulham, so in answer to your question, no :). Where were you born and when did you move to Brighton?

Good thread to ask all those with London knowledge (tried googling it but drew a blank) whatever happened to The London Regalia? did it sink? Get towed away? Other? When I worked at LIFFE, used to spend many a happy Summer lunch 'hour' on the upper deck of that creaky vessel of dark varnished wood, thick rope and polished brass, ending up with skin the colour and consistency of a sun-dried tomato. Not a good look to go back to work with. Miraculously the tide would raise or lower the water level by about twenty feet in what seemed as many minutes. Always magical when the timbers of the ancient old harbour were revealed at low tide.

Born in Bristol (spooky that you referred to that), but only lived there for 3 years, then via other places I came here in 1986 to work for the Council.

Have to say, having been there yesterday, the Sky Garden 35 floors up at 20 Fenchurch Street (aka the Walkie-Talkie) takes some beating for jaw-droppingly stunning views over all of London. Did I mention it's *free?

* Need to pre-book.

Some very interesting replies. For all the people interested after Chelsea my top four would be Hampstead, st johns wood, south Kensington and mayfair.
