Don't know when you last went but it's a pale imitation of itself these days. Very sad as it was once a great place.

Lived in Balham/Wandsworth Common for three years until November. Played football most Saturday mornings at St George's Hospital sports centre followed by a walk up the high street and a visit to one of the many amazing veggie curry houses for a Thali for about £4. Brilliant.

BYOB, grilled lamb chops and naan to die for. What's not to like?

I never thought i'd get on with living here when I moved away from Brighton in 2008 but whilst i've kept my flat in Brighton I don't see myself moving back. You've got to find a bit of London you love and then you'll never leave. I work in St James's/Mayfair and live in Barnes Bridge and bloody love it.

Was stuck in the office until about 8.30 this evening and made it home for a run along the river into the sunset. Glorious.
great place, I was born there !

You're just not in the know anymore, probably trying to buy your slacks at Lord John's still.

I will agree that I probably don't know the places to go these days (remember "13"?) but the general vibe is very much cleaner than it used to be. Just an observation.

I only go there as its 2 stops from Vic.

I need a beer after an hour and a half on the train.

Tend to start in the John Snow, then who knows! :whisky:

It's still a great area, don't get me wrong. I was there a few weeks ago in fact.

I worked for a year in Chiswick. Cycled in every day from Tooting, most of my journey by the side of the Thames. The job wasn't great but the journey to and from work was the best ever.

Like it around Barnes Bridge; seen some good jazz in the Bulls Head

Did you or your neighbours not realise that is not the east end of London.

What makes you think that ? It's E15 and in West Ham.
I suppose Millwall is South London too when its actually E13.
Thats why my old University is there The University Of EAST LONDON
You need to get your geographical facts right.

BensGrandad is attempting to be sarcastic i think, after being corrected on the term "east end".

lets talk geographical facts. "East end" is geographically the East End of London, which historically went as far east as the river Lea. so anything east of that isn't properly "East End", its east London. no doubt many in that area identify as East Enders, but end of day that's like saying you are Brightonian when living in Portslade - its sort of right, its sort of the same place but not strictly. Stratford is wanna-be East End, its in east London, but not the East End.

you dont have this nonsence in the West end, with those from Chelsea or Hammersmith calling themselves west enders.

I think Stratford is in the Est End of London but certain others on here have said that area is not so you are trying to teach the converted.

I love parts of the East End like Shoreditch and Hoxton. Although today it's a mix of Hipsters and the original cockneys.
So much rubbish being spouted on this thread!!! I've lived in London the last 15 years and have worked around the city the last 10 or so.

I can assure you there are very few original cockneys in shoreditch !!!! It's pretty all hipsters, media wankers and cuthberts who have their own tech start up darling. As someone else has rightly said it turns into a hell hole at the weekends now because all the Essex trash (who ironically probably are related to "original cockneys") come in....

All this dewy eyed bollocks about the east end as well !!! The east end as you once knew it is dead, EastEnders is a lie!!!. Most people on this thread wouldnt be able to live more than about a week in most places in the " east end". Take a tube to Whitechapel, when you get out you are not confronted by football factory, Danny dyer "heros" it looks more like Syria , a horrible smelly market with a load of people wandering around in Burka's!!!

All that aside. For me London is the best city in the world. Incredible architecture, food, an amazing melting pot of cultures. You meet so many amazing people and learn so much every single day. Im biased because I live in west London but I love Notting hill, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Marylebone, Mayfair. So many brilliant places.
