Tokyo.

Lived and worked there for just over 4 years. And I would go back and do it all again in a heartbeat.

One of the most fantastic places where modern and traditional culture exists side by side in harmony, fantastic food, where great friendships have been established, and just an all-round amazing place.

Doesn't valencia have one of the largest old towns in Europe?!

It does, but I've been spoilt by other Spanish cities probably.

It isn't Barcelona and definitely isn't Seville. I'm not a huge fan of Granada, although the Alhambra is incredible.

I've stayed in both Jerez and Cadiz but always return to Seville. Love the place, walk into any bar / restaurant and guaranteed good food at a reasonable price alongside locals.

We spent two nights there (we being me and the missus). We managed to get on an amazing tour of Gion with Peter Mackintosh (http://www.kyotosightsandnights.com/walking.html) and saw a lot of temples ourselves. It is an incredible city in terms of culture and architecture and was spared in WW2 for that reason. Also the sake is gooooood

However, it's not somewhere I'd live. You need a really deep understanding of Japanese culture to be there. Whereas I could move to Sydney tomorrow and not miss a beat.

I lived all over London, but found the best place to live within walking distance of two large commons.

Coming up from Brighton you are often doing it all wrong. Get off at Clapham Junction (which isn't Clapham which is now a dive) and have a walk / few beers down Northcote Road via St Johns Road.

If you do go central, just do the South Bank and come home.

Northcote Road is a bit like Kings Road without the plastic surgery.

Lovely friendly bit of London round the Junction, just don't call it "Clapham". It's Wandsworth.

Great place. I used to do all the brochure photography for the magic of italy tour operators, now part of Tui and every summer I used to be sent out to photograph villas and hotels in Tuscany and Umbria. Although I like Florence I always prefered Siena.

Lovely small city. Visited on honeymoon on a day trip from Florence year, came back following year to stay a few days just before the Palio.

Favourite other cities are York and Edinburgh

I think it's more restaurants in Amsterdam they are invariably rubbish. It's not really an "eating out" city and the Dutch don't have much of a cuisine. Your choice in Amsterdam in usually foreign food done badly, if it's local it's usually some form of deep fried nonsense.

I'm quite happy eating in Belgium or Germany, but I'm sorry Amsterdam your food in restaurants sucks. I'll bring back a brick of your aged Gouda though.

I always find a hotel with a fridge and live off the very nice food you can get in the supermarkets.

You forgot the delights of vending machines dispensing fries (chips) with mayonnaise. That's a proper Dutch treat.

Lived in Groningen for six months - absolutely loved it. Quite small for a city though.

Seriously, NY is great but I hate flying there - Newark or JFK.....unless someone is meeting me with a car and I can nod off, then I'm in..

It really really isn't.

Amsterdam for food is a like a much bigger and even more rubbish Leicester Square after 6 pints and a spliff without fear of arrest.

You do find the odd oasis though. There is an old bakery off Dam Square that does fantastic coffee and breakfasts.

However for everyone one of those there are countless shit Italian, Chinese, Noodle Bar etc...

The city is primed for I'll eat anything munchies stoned teenager. After many many visits I've sought out some of the better places, but they are invariably rubbish.

Makes you appreciate the nice food that is available in this country.
