Seeing as we have some followers of the Bundasliga here, can anyone throw light on the business with the clubs finances? I heard something a while back that all German teams have to demonstrate they are "in the black" before the season starts or they are not allowed to start the season. Is this right? And by "in the black" does that refer to a healthy cash position, or literally no long-term creditors or loans on their balance sheets at all?

seen them twice, both times have been brilliant. not the best supported team but their fans were really nice, they have schteve in charge and are pretty unfashionable.

koln is a great city and a great place to watch football. quite liked 1860 munchen as well after seeing them, and mainz was a great little stadium. very old school. bit of a shame they are moving for next season really

st pauli was just one massive cliche though and apart from the stadium being unique in its shitness, i didnt think it was anything special at all

Card carrying member of Schalke. Will glued to the TV tonight as we play the unmentionables. Back over later this month for the Nurnberg game, saves going to FC Franchise. Having a very poor year this year though, I think if they roll over and die tonight Magaths head will be on a pole behind the Hibernia before the weekend is over. MAGATH RAUS!

Dortmund even since the 1997 Champions League final. Lars Ricken's superb volley with his first touch and Karlheinz Riedle's backwards diving header were unforgettable.

yep. that pretty much sums it up. my sis lived just round the corner from the hauptmarkt so all that on the doorstep. was there during spargel week once as well - strangely pale asparagus everywhere you looked! and special 'spargel only' menus in restaurants

I went for a weekend in Koln last year and it was spargel week. They're mad for the stuff. Makes a change from pork based products I guess.

By the way it's the 'derby with no history' tomorrow. Hertha BSC take on Union for only the second time competitively. The first was earlier in the season.

In a pile of football shirts
It turns out to be a shirt worn by a team set up for a one off match in Bonn, the day before the German Government moved back to Berlin, the match was palyed by amatuers, that's as much as I can find out at the moment.

Borussia Moenchengladbach for me (and The Grub - see below)

We've been there a couple of times and had a great time.

Whoever St Pauli are playing.

Edit - oh and I don't care for Bayern Munich either. Completely irrational but they strike me as the Bosch version of Man U ergo I dislike them intensely.

Yes they did. They utilised a number of skills and disciplines from within their fanbase to drastically reduce the cost of a rebuild.

I have seen them a couple of times but did not like the very visible White Power supporters amongst their number. The Hauptstadt Mafia are much more fun.

I've seen them three times at the Alte Foersterei but never noticed that. I must be dense. I always thought they were one of the more sympathetic teams from the old GDR. It's certainly the worry I've always had about Dynamo Dresden. I don't know if it's just the appearance of the old Gothic style writing on things, but always looked a bit dodgy.

It is, though not sure of the details. I think they have to have some kind of bond in place to show their solvency. Some clubs have been relegated for not having finance in place for their annual professional licence. Union Berlin messed it up a couple of times when they won the amateurs, meaning they couldn't be promoted.

1.FC Koln for me.
Saw them play a few times when I was living in Cologne.
Also watched Fortuna Koln when they were in the 2nd Division, but they seem to have dropped back into regional football
