Well I think we are, there is something about British films that I really like.
Not Oscar winning stuff but 2 off my list, Little Voice & Brassed off are really enjoyable films in a British made sort of way.
The Aussies have made good films in their way too.

Yes the aussies certainly have. How about Walkabout?, a film from the early 70's starring a young, nubile, and very naked, Jenny Agutter.

If you want proper BRITISH films then you have to look at the Powell and Pressberger films of the 1940's-50's...

In particular:

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
A Canterbury Tale
A Matter of Life and Death

Don't look now is a classic. They are supposed to be remaking it but I don't think it will work as well, it can only be more Hollywood. It is also one of those films where not knowing the ending is key.

Julie Christie again, can't go wrong. The dwarf in the red coat still sends shivers down my spine. I also loved the Riva boats and the Venice setting. Very unnerving film though.

And an even more nubile and naked Helen Mirren? Or is my memory shot?

And as mentioned dozens of times already,
Dead man's shoes.

And, sadly I'm yet to watch it, but as it was made by one of our own, it must be good:
The Cutting Room.

The Fatherland
And to think a poster stated the British don't make good films.
