and got Dahoud on a free and Baleba. No one can argue that RDZ hasn’t been sold short on midfielders and this window was an opportunity to put some of that right.

I imagine RDZ was told very clearly how the system worked before he arrived here. Assuming he was he is out of order moaning about it now imo. He was also the one who wanted Dahoud as well wasn’t he?

Squad is weaker now than it was last May despite us competing in the Europa knockouts amongst an injury crisis.

Best manager we've ever had, he's definitely not been properly backed. He's had a couple of good signings but it's not enough.

In his time at the club he's lost Colwill, Trossard, Mwepu, Caicedo and Mac Allister. And Sanchez but that one was on RDZ.

He'll be gone in the summer and it will be fascinating to see the spin about how it was RDZs fault, looks like it's already starting from the usual suspects. Maybe the club are briefing already

Dahoud was Free wasn't he? Hardly a big stakes decision.

selling an exceptionally managed/developed over performing defensive midfielder for more than triple value was utter genius . . . Any manager can live with that. I'm sure TB has explained the basics.

selling Ali MAc at 3x purchase was ok, but at less than half his value was not . . . But that was the deal, and I'm sure TB et all knew that before he arrived . . . . As did RDZ. Losing both together was harsh, but can any club turn down £120m for a defensive midfielder?

we will ride the dip . . . It's not 1983.

I have maybe a different view In terms of backing RDZ.

Would I like to see someone new coming in? Of course. Do I trust TB and PB (OBEs) absolutely. If RDZ isn’t happy, respectfully, recruitment isn’t his job. It’s to get the best out of the players he is given. Unless he is willing to sign a long contract and guarantee he isn’t going to move for the duration of said contract. Only then, imo, does he have the right to push for players he wants.

This is speculation on my part and I have absolutely no knowledge of whether this is correct or not but, I suspect that RDZ isn’t being backed in terms of targets/players he wants partly because Dahoud didn’t work out but also because RDZ may well be moving in in the nearer future than we would all like.
TB and PB (OBEs) will buy players that their data model believe are worth signing as they have done successfully rather than buying players a specific manager wants and that we may be left with if/when that manager moves on Which are not part of the clubs long term plans.

In terms of squad, yes we miss a Bissouma/Caicedo but in CM we have:
Groß, Gilmour, Baleba, Hinshlewood, Milner, Moder, Lallana - yes there could be another signing here

full backs:
Pervis, Lamptey, Veltman, Barco and then Groß, Milner, Hinshlewood, Igor that can fill in.

Attackers:
coming back soon - Fati, Mitoma, Adingra, and Encisco with March longer term.
Welbz and Pedro (even Milner) can fill in the wings and CAM alongside Facu, Lallana, Groß

Overall, we are not in a bad place when everyone is fit. We’ve suffered for the last couple of months and impulse signings now will be more harmful than good in the long run. As long as we don’t suffer delays in recoveries or new injuries.

Absolutely THIS. 2 others missed off your list, easy to do as they slipped out the back door with no-one noticing, a certain Alexis Mac and a bloke called Caicedo (what did ever happen to them I wonder 🤔).

What TBMBE doesn't do is get ripped off. If there's a deal to be done then he'll do it. If not, then he won't do it. Often Jan can be a time to get ripped off.

Yes we need signings, but at the expense of everything Mr Bloom has built? No thanks.

Think we get Gil in on loan btw.

lol so far from “we don’t do business in January”, it actually looks like we’ve done our best business in January

I imagine, given the research he’d done, he didn’t even need to be told how things worked here.

Anyone can see we badly need a quality midfielder, after recent sales to Chelsea he’s probably scratching his head why we didn’t get the Leicester lad in. He was planning the season with MC he said as much in his pre season presser. Not much thanks for getting us into Europe but there you go.

Starting a revolution from my bed
For all the talk of injured players coming back and Adingra/Mitoma returning from AFCON/Asia Cup, it neglects that we’ll likely have gone 8 games without recognised wingers by the time they are back. Given that we started the season with only one left footed winger, who suffered a season-ending (and quite possibly standard of career affecting) injury in October, meaning Mitoma and Adingra were run into the ground and suffered with form and fatigue, I am genuinely very surprised we have not signed a left footed winger. The severity of Solly’s injury alone should have made it a priority. There’s no guarantee he comes back the same player and will be 30 the next time he steps onto the pitch for us. We will need a direct replacement/competition for him sooner rather than later. Now would’ve been the perfect time.

When Mitoma and Adingra are back, we may well find ourselves in a similar situation again. RDZ will regularly start them as first choices, especially as we are going to have so many ‘must win’ games meaning fatigue/injury won’t be far away for both of them again. We have the option of Fati, Buononatte and Enciso but they are simply not suited as wide players. Certainly not wide players in the most effective version of RDZball. Fati has also been injury-ravaged for most of his career, so can hardly be relied upon in any position.

I appreciate we have tried to get Gil in as a stop gap and maybe there have been others we don’t know about. It’s just incredibly frustrating that a glaring issue hasn’t been resolved and will likely have a detrimental impact on the rest of our season.

I hope it’s just me being negative after Tuesday and with the prospect of playing Palace with no wingers. Feel free to bounce this if I’m proven wrong, I sincerely hope I am!
