Category: Very safe Conservative seat
Geography: East Midlands, Lincolnshire.. Includes part of the East Lindsey council area.
Main population centres: Louth, Horncastle, Mablethorpe, Manby, Spilsby, Tattershall, North Somercotes, Sutton-on-Sea.
Profile: A rural seat, covering much of the Lincolnshire Wolds and the county`s North sea coast. Settlements are mostly villages and hamlets, small market towns and seaside towns like Mablethorpe. This is an isolated and remote part of the Midlands, road links are poor and the rail lines were closed by Beeching, leaving agriculture the main industry.
Politics: A solid Conservative seat. Louth and Horncastle and its predecessors have been held by the Conservatives since before the war and by Sir Peter Tapsell, its patrician MP, since 1966, making him the longest serving Member of Parliament and Father of the House.

Tory hold in Newbury for certain. Was Lib Dem for 12 years up to 2005 but they took a pasting last time around and I expect them to lose another chunk of their votes to the Conservatives and UKIP to leave them even further behind. Labour will never gain ground around here, that's just the way it's always been.

Woking. Conservatives to hold with an increased majority. No doubt whatsoever.

The constituency has been Conservative ever since its establishment in the 1950s. At the last election the second party were the LibDems and there is little prospect of them making any inroads this time around.

West Sussex constituences & current incumbents:

Arundel & South Downs- Nick Herbert (Con)- 16,691 majority

Bognor Regis & Littlehampton- Nick Gibb (Con)- 13,063

Chichester- Andrew Tyrie (Con)- 15,877

Crawley BC- Henry Smith (Con)- 5,928

East Worthing & Shoreham- Tim Loughton (Con)- 11,105

Horsham- Francis Maude (Con)- 11,460

Mid Sussex- Nicholas Soames (Con)- 7,402

Worthing West- Peter Bottomley (Con)- 11,729

Of those, the Lib Dems are by some distance the second placed party in all but Crawley, where Labour has held the seat in recent memory (the Blair election).

I'm amazed that Fatty Soames has the 2nd smallest majority in West Sussex. Thought it would be 10,000+.

Arundel & South Downs - such a safe Tory Seat they thought it was OK to parachute an openly gay candidate in after booting out Howard Flight!

IF he really COULD get Arundel bypassed and therefore get the horrendous traffic congestion out of Storrington (as is being promised) I would be happy to vote for him.

More interesting is Horsham District Council Elections which has an exceptionally unpopular Tory ruling group who have severely pissed off lots of people by getting into bed with property developers (you may have noticed that the West of Horsham is one huge building site and they want to do the same North of the town).

I hope they will get a good shoeing in May, maybe power going back to the saner Lib Dems but UKIP might also take some seats.

Buckingham - Speaker

John Bercow is my MP. Since no mainstream parties are allowed to put in a candidate against the Speaker (I think he will be up against UKIP and Monster Raving Loony), my confident prediction is that he will keep his seat

Is that a fact? Well, you learn something new every day.

Do you feel a bit robbed if your MP becomes Speaker, I wonder?
