Well, given that he is required to attend Parliament all the time and is therefore given an apartment actually IN the House of Commons, you would think he might be a bit busy.

Luckily we are a quiet and rural area, he is actively campaigning against HS2 but there's probably not too much for him to do.

Indeed, it hardly seems worth going to the polling booth, though I probably will

I always do. I shan't express a political view because I'm officially not allowed to at this time, but I feel quite strongly that as it's still less than a hundred years since women were excluded from the vote, it would be wrong of me to show total apathy and not bother.

Yes, the Suffragettes are all long gone but many of them were imprisoned, force fed, subjected to other forms of torture and humiliation, not to mention the ones throwing themselves under horses and so on. So if somehow we were to meet in a future life, I'd like to be able to look them in the eye and say I exercised the right that they fought so passionately for

Of course you should, well said. Everyone should.

Damn it, it's the one, solitary time that YOU have absolute power over them - normally it's entirely the other way around. Why would anyone choose to pass that up?

Well said Edna. And it's not just an issue for women: remember that just 150 years ago, the vast majority of the males on NSC wouldn't have been able to vote either. People lost their lives and the liberty in the fight to get the vote, the least we can do is exercise that right

I'm in Tunbridge Wells. Not even going to bother looking. As we used to say: "You could put up a monkey with a blue rosette here and it'd win". For many years it did, but then Sir Patrick Mayhew retired.

Signed

Disgusted, Tunbridge Wells

You maybe right, but still even in Tunbridge Wells nearly 23,000 decided not to vote, more than enough to overturn what is admittedly a very formidable looking 15,000 majority. However, imagine the shock on the incumbents face if he were told that everyone had voted, he wouldn't know what to think.

Brighton Pavilion. Caroline Lucas will retain with help of students who will then p*** off two years after the election.

People keep saying this, but a) when I was a student (in Nottingham) I was still registered to vote in Uckfield, where I spent slightly more time, and it was easier than changing. Presumably most students are the same? and b) I believe more students stay in Brighton than almost any other place, as it's such a wonderful place and c), surely they will be replaced by more students, are the new ones suddenly going to be drammatically right wing? and d) it's Londoners buying up property in Brighton that's the real problem in Brighton, meaning Brightonians like me have had to move out of town. Other than that, carry on...

I think this thread has highlighted the need for a more proportional form of representation. I'm still gobsmacked that AV didn't get through.

I hope Caroline is re elected, she is a great MP.

As I mentioned on another thread, I walk the dog between St Peters Church and Hollingbury Park on different routes and the Re-Elect Lucas posters in peoples windows were about 10 -1 up on Vote Labour (only seen one Vote Sen poster), over the weekend thats gone up to about 15 -1. I often find this a quite accurate guide.

You really think that 15 times more people are going to vote for the hairy leg brigade than vote Labour? Interesting.

Well, it was a ridiculous time to have held a referendum on it when we were faced with the media portrayal of the financial apocalypse, but hey ho, do you fancy changing the voting system? It was a stitch up, especially when the main supporter of it had only just got into bed with the main opponent. Mugged off I think the phrase is.

Hove and Portslade. Labour 2/5 Tories 7/4.

Hove has a history of Ivor "What expenses" Caplin and Celia " Gold Taps" Barlow as blue reds and a recent swing to the Tories in the constituency with Wheatherly. I find the odds on the Tories attractive unlike their candidate.

So based on the influx of London money to Hove I say Tory. The polls are not telling the truth as the wealthy of Hove are all dreadfully poor darling and do not want to publicly declare themselves Tory.

He didn't say that. I read it as meaning the Greens appear that have a much more active show of support.

It's the same in Hanover.

Bet alert: I've backed Kelly Tolhurst to gain from Mark Reckless in Rochester @4/5.

Eastbourne. Lib Dem MP Stephen Lloyd to hold on with a reduced majority - although tactical voters will no longer back the Lib Dems, the Tories will lose even more voters to UKIP.

North Somerset,.... very safe Conservative seat,... Liam Fox sitting MP,... normally 15% ish lead over LDems,.... who are likely to be squeezed,... I suspect we may get a 55% Conservative vote this time round,... Labour average 10-12% and are only really in the larger towns such as W-S-M... but this is now a seat on its own,... so there isnt likely to be a change here.

I grew up in Thanet south so most of my old mates are voting for Al Murray although Farage will almost certainly get in.

That's a bold prediction: I see he's 11-4 on, although Ashcroft's last poll had the Tories holding it. There's been a poll since that predicts a UKIP win although there have been claims that it's a bit of a rogue poll - that second poll also predicted Labour in second place so it's a complete turnaround.

It's going to be an interesting vote but I don't see it being a "certainty" that Farage will win it
