A plan 'B' would be nice. A different way of playing/trying to score.

Maybe a big, target man is needed to mix it up with the cultured gang...

Spot on, Potter must be so frustrated and I feel for him. Your main striker is having an absolute shocker, you desperate need a goal and you turn to the bench and have literally no options . Not because of injury of suspension but simply because the club have been unwilling or unable to give you the players you need. To have two senior strikers is simply negligent.

Lots of posters will respond with we have other players who can score. Fine; except they simply don’t. Trossard, March, Gross, MacAlister and Mwepu are barely double figures between them all.

Applies to about 500 games among the lot I have witnessed since 1958.
We could have been contenders if only.......
Enjoy it while your still standing.

My post was a reply to the post I quoted claiming we needed a worldie etc.

There were spells yesterday when we were forced into quick one touch passes and pulled them off. We can do it under pressure, but seemingly not in front of goal. Citeh's goals yesterday were what we could do but for some reason, no running into space and as noted, 'freeze and allow the defence to reset'.

In fairness we put more danger ball is but, Norwich got away with one yesterday.

The second half yesterday did produce a fair few low hard crosses along the 6 yard line.
Something that certainly could have produced more than the usual of lobbing the ball onto a centre backs forehead.

Also the three quick-fire corners from Solly were bang on the money, not the usual Albion into the goalies hands or passing the 6 yard box 10 feet in the air.

Perfect for Muzza, Webster, that type of finisher.

We don’t seem to be able to attack the opposition goal directly, every attack is down the wings on the touch line with no end product.. Oh for the days when Vicente would tear down the centre of the pitch before letting fly.

Unfortunately I think most coaches teach people to not take risks and look after the ball so that individual skill and swagger are gradually being removed from the game. I say that through experience with my son who was coached by an Academy coach when younger. Instead of going round one or two and looking to leather the ball into the net he became too frightened to have a go, instead always looking to check, shield and pass. that's fine if the player concerned sometimes thinks," sod it I'm going for it occasionally" but my son wasn't mentally strong enough to do that. Never wanting to go against the coaches every word. There's a very fine line between coaching to get the best out of someone and coaching the best out of someone. Ironically his side became a bit like the Albion now, all lovely passing but with no end product.???

But yesterdays game didn’t need a worldie or a shocker from the opponent’s defence; all it needed was Maupay to get his penalty on target and/or Veltman to have nodded his chance lower etc.

No arguments about the pen, but Veltman's chance.??
complete reflex reaction - no time to place it.

We desperately need a new striker!

Even Alan Shearer said it on Match of the Day last night, we look great going forward, create lots of chances, (31 shots yesterday), but just can't find the back of the net.

Ok so we have Deniz Undav joining us in the summer from his season's loan in Belgium, but even he is completely untried at Premier League level.

I know this has all been said countless times before, but sorry Mr. Bloom you will hbave to open your wallet wide one more time, and invest properly on a striker with a proven goalscoring record at this level.

Yes we have a few prospects in the Development squad, Ferguson, Tolaj et al, but they are both young and l don't think ready yet.plus Zeqiri and Sima but l'm far from convinced that they are the an swer to our problems either.

It really is obvious where our greatest problems lay. If you don't score goals you don't win football matgches. End of.

Come on then, you ARE Tony Bloom for the day, who do you buy. Who is this elusive proven goal scorer with PL experience that you seek? Name names...!

Maupay would get 20+ in the Belgian league but I really hope we don't test that theory. We need Undav and another striker and Maupay and that would still probably not be quite enough as other teams that we are trying to compete against. Our supporting guys like Andy Z and Aaron C still don't look ready and Evan F needs to be allowed to develop

Kickie ball forward quicker.

On days like yesterday they need to have an attacking corner routine (it's the only time they'll be out of position)

Sanchez needs to signal 'this one'.

Claim ball.
Instantly throw it to the byline halfway up his own half.
Lamptey/Cucu already running into that space.
One or two touch max before clipping the ball forward to where Maupay should be running into.

As it stands, at the moment.
They fake the above.
Then throw out to Solly.
Who cuts back inside.
Then passes into the middle of his own half.
And already the moment is gone.

But at least they keep possession.

Well that's genius. I presume you're managing at a decent level and your team is scoring lots of goals?

What’s our budget for a striker? A top 10 front line must be 60-80 million in transfer fee alone. May be the investment strategy should be to sell the best midfielders (Trossard / Bissouma at current time) to increase funds for up top and replace from development squad? But then there’s knock on effect on salary structure….

Although he's had a poor season by his standards I would love Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester. big, powerful and a real handful.(await swede boy exclaiming he's only scored 5 and that's less than Maupay) But way out of our price league. Blooms a gambler by design so I'm sure he's confident still that the probability that we will "spin the wheel" and hit the jackpot eventually of a relative unknown making good will happen.

Now, I know I'm going to get slated for this, BUT....
I think we should ditch the stripe kit. It makes it difficult to focus on who is near, or far, in the blink of an eye (from an on field perspective).
Most of the perennially successful teams have a single colour shirt.
We have a better away record, maybe because we don't often wear stripes?

Just a thought... :tumble:

My bet is a team in stripes will dominate English football within 6 years.

Posts like this are pathetic. It’s a fans football forum, everyone is entitled to an opinion without being hit with the childish line of use your own money. If we can’t afford the calibre of player that it is abundantly clear we need then maybe our economic model needs updated and Tony needs to go and seek some additional investment.

Maybe he is trying to bring in extra income via additional investment - we just don't know. There is also financial fair play to bear in mind as well as being sustainable. If it was your business and had lost what we had in the last 2 years would you plough even more in? Maybe you would.

Perhaps Tony is trying to sell the soul of the club to potential investors in the Middle East or some Russian Oligarch but from what I can see, he is trying (and barely succeeding) to keep the club afloat so we don't end up being the next Portsmouth or Sunderland.

As you say it's a matter of opinions, and that is fine, but I personally would rather see the club reduce it's debts and become more sustainable even if it means us bumbling around the bottom third of the best league in the world. Until such time as Tony sells the club to some money magnet, I am happy with the way the club is being operated, even if the results we all want to see are hard to come by. From nearly going to the wall 25 years ago to 13th in the Premier League - hmm, real life problems?
