Certainly the surprise package from the summer. How many thought he play so many games this season for us?

Well done to the lad. A long way from being perfect but he's certainly a grafter and really hard working player and is deserving of his chance.
I watched a couple of his Blackburn loan games. He obviously played second fiddle to permanent players which a lot of loan players have to contend with. They are normally back-up.

That said, he did look very good when I saw him play and it did occur to me that he might thrive playing with much better players. But he did not stand out enough for me to think ‘get him in the 1st team now!’.

I was convinced for some time that he’d go out on loan in the 2nd half of the season to make way for Gomez but with Moder gone and Milner and Hinsh injured, he has taken his chance remarkably well.
The boffins at the club obviously knew all about his potential when Gilmour was sold as he is really starting to fill his boots but will hopefully add a few goals and assists.

Did the club KNOW when we let Gilmour leave that we had an almost ready replacement, or is it just fortuitous ???
Like all the transfer and personnel decisions the club have made in the last 5 years, they just stick a finger in the wind and rely on pure chance. This is just another example of another outrageous fluke of recruitment which has gone the clubs way

I may be totally wrong on this, but it seems to me to be Yasin has been a beneficiary of the really old fashioned concept of taking your chance to impress in pre season.

Was he being lined up for another loan before those games in Japan? We'll never know.

He's also taken his chance to impress when others have been injured. The oldest fashioned way of making yourself a regular pick

He also seems to have a tough, make it happen mentality. I saw an interview with him and he was quite impressive. Basically just said I learn and learn and never give up and never stop.

Managers love all that. Diligence and determination.

Certainly over - 'play me because I'm ace. Do you like my earrings?'

Agree with both of you very much.

Said as much in my post above.

Slightly ‘fortuitous’ I think for Ayari that we had the injuries we had - with O’Riley out from the get go and Wieffer injured, the pecking line became much shorter but he’s really maximised the chances he got and deserves a regular start or at least a place as an impact sub..

I don't think you are wrong. I suspect it's a mixture of that and the fact that Milner is 38 and won't get much game time, Weiffer arrived injured, O'Riley got injured straight away, and Gilmour was already out the door. At the time were were a little light and coupled with his excellent application and ability to learn Fab's system, he has obviously stood out.

We took LOADS of midfielders to Japan, and he really stood out against the other youngsters:

  • James Milner (Injured)
  • Billy Gilmour (Sold)
  • Carlos Baleba
  • Mats Wieffer (Injured)
  • Andy Moran (Loan Out)
  • Jensen Weir (Released)
  • Jack Hinshelwood (Injured)
  • Malick Yalcouye (Loan Out)

Only Ayari and Baleba have been consistently available for most of the season and he totally earned his spot, not only in the squad, but on he pitch too

I think most players who played the game will have a sliding doors moment to give them their in. The good ones take the chance, the not so good fade to obscurity!
Yes - that was exactly the point I was making when I said earlier that he ”maximised“ the chances he had to play and that the workhorse attitude is similar (to WBG) . WBG got into our regular starts because he fought hard for it and his efforts on the pitch were 110% - that gets rewarded by managers.

I also think as I said above, it is a testament to Hűrzeler for eyeing the potential of youngsters. I’m not sure RDZ would have made the same decision and he didn’t give WBG a start for months in 23/24 admitting last season it was probably a ‘mistake not to’ have done.

Looks good on Hurzeler I think, that he saw something in him, that let's face it, most others didn't. And has stuck at it. I appreciate necessity played its part but the manager and player have done well to make it work
I must admit when Hürzeler sent both Barco and Facu out on loan but kept players like Enciso and Ayari, I raised an eyebrow but we don’t have the benefit of seeing these players day in and day out in training. Some youngsters might actually perform better ‘behind closed doors‘ than in front of thousands of people under match day pressure. Maybe it takes a certain manager to change that?

From that SSN clip, it looks as if they think Enciso to Ipswich is a done deal (providing he doesn't do a Taylor Richards in the medical!)

Yes. And the basic human aspect. Anyone who's ever managed people knows that you take to and trust certain people more than others, based in your own judgement, experience / feelings and intuition.

There's always more to this stuff than which player has got the best stats.

SSN says he was "nearly sold" over the summer, have to assume his pre-season performance convinced Hurzeler he was worth keeping https://www.skysports.com/transfer/...s-and-highlights?postid=8959294#liveblog-body

Yup, must have been a lot of doubt over his future at that point given his season in the Championship.

Yasin made a decision to make it big time in the Premier League though and it seems neither our opponents or his rival midfielders are going to be able to stop this little machine from conquering the football world.

He has the attitude that managers love. I was struck by what he said after the Arsenal away game, when he came on for Milner after 17 minutes.

"I'm always ready, I train hard every day to be ready for these chances and I think I took it. Every training session I train like I'm going to start. Every time when I'm on the bench I try to see the opponent, how they play, the guy I'm playing against, how he's moving. I prepare every time the day before, look at some videos and everything. I'm always prepared.

"I will work as hard as possible. When I get my chances like today, I will try to show that I want to play and then we'll see how far it goes. I always think that if I get the chance, if I get the opportunity, I will show that I'm a good player because I believe in myself. Now I'm getting the chances when people are not here and I think I'm taking them.”

He was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the arrival of a new manager with no pre-conceived ideas of who has to play, plus injuries. But then he had to make the most of the opportunity and he has. Lucky for him, lucky for us.

I think his connections with Kulusevski also play a huge part, someone to look up to, see what it takes to get better and so on. Both will fight till the end and managers and fans love it!
