Albion are believed to be on the verge of signing defender Jake Wright from Crawley.

Crawley have accepted an offer for the 23-year-old while Wright has agreed personal terms this morning and signed a contract subject to a medical.

The Seagulls were competing for Wright's signature with an unnamed Scottish Premier League outfit but are thought to have won the race to capture him.

Good news - I haven't seem him play, but from comments of others on here and the seagull's world/player commentary he seems to be a good'un.

Good signing. I just hope he's happy as cover for left back because there is going to be immense competition for centre back positions.

Sounds good from what I've heard of him.

Perhaps we've agreed to send them some players on loan for the season *cough*livermoreandhawkins*cough* as part of the deal.

Why would Crawley care where he plays?

Another lucrative pre season friendly perhaps ?
We might have incentivised the deal which other clubs weren't willing to offer , such as a decent sell on clause.

Can we suggest this on ATC , if they haven't *coughed* ? :)

Hopefully Jimmy Mac will be able to take his time now and make sure he is 100% before returning. Also hopefully he will struggle to get the shit back which would mean Wright is having a very good season at full back

Watching him at Torquay the guy is not a natural left back and was out of position a lot and passed round on several occasions. Switching inside in place of Elphick he looked absolute quality - very assured, passed the ball instead of hoofing it.

I think he is a very good signing and that he will be a real prospect but I still think we need a left back.

............now where were those people saying "why are we wasting time looking at local players?" :dunce:

Why would it have to be sweetners? Surely if we just offered more money then that would have clinched the deal ...

Argus says that Colchester were turned down at $70k and Charlton at $100k .. So if we offered $150k, for example, that would have swung it?

Ive heard fee will total around 175K after appearances etc so with that kind of wonga i'd imagine we're signing someone with more potential than just a back up to Jimmy Mc. Not sure if it's already been said but the SPL side who went in for him yesterday was Hearts.

Hearts? They are supposed to be skint.
