I would. Il probably get coated for this thread but hay ho.proceed ladies and gentlemen.

Well obviously l am hoping beyond hope that we will it and cement our place in this division for next season, but yes, l would take a point if our nearest protagonists lose the next two.

At this stage of the season with games running out, l just want to get over that safety line asap.

Not sure I buy that Big Sam mythology.

Chelsea had a man sent off after 25 minutes and they had a day when every shot went in. Southampton were resting players, or at least had one eye on, the FA Cup semi final. Prior to that WBA were doing nothing.

Still gotta win em, but I'm not judging Fat Sam on those two results ar worried about them rallying.

Thanks, that has helped me breathe more easily !!

Yes for sure.

Of course I may well be proved wrong but I think we will be looking to be tight at Sheff United and certainly not lose the point we start with. Our record against the lower sides (excepting Newcastle) is pretty dire. Whilst many thought Fulham were the side to watch it is turning out to be perhaps WBA. Sam gets results, probably too late for this season but result wise he is doing pretty well.

If you create a league table from when SA took over (link to table between dates) WBA are still in the bottom 3 for the period SA has been in charge. They have 17 pts from 18 games under Sam 'Gets Results' Allardyce. His record is the same as Fulham for the same period. Amazing that the impression is he's doing pretty well.

It’s a given we all want a win. But... given we got a point against Chelsea I would accept another point on Saturday. Nudging up to 35 with our goal difference and we are so nearly there particularly if West Brom lose tonight.

Also, apart from maybe Man City who should have league wrapped up by then, I can see every game left being a genuine opportunity for more points.

Thats not bad for the team WBA have though. Absolutely awful side and that ratio of points is survival over a season which with the side wba have is quite impressive.

What was the table when he took over ?

Its prob they have sorted out defence and won 2 in a row so seem the most likely to be the threat. Lose tonight nips alot of that in the bud though

I think their 6 points and 8 goals from their last 2 matches might be playing some part in that...

It's 0.94 ppg, so if they'd done that all season, they would be on 29 pts - clearly a lot more nervy for us, but still in the bottom 3. Over 38 games the projected total would be 35.7 pts - so touch and go whether it would be survival or not. They finished clear runners-up behind Leeds and have PL experience in that squad - not sure why you would find all that quite impressive.

Just wonder if Potter will change his tactics for this game as he did last season.
Take a point now, but would really prefer becoming safe as quickly as possible, otherwise I will need to increase my blood pressure pills.

If it were me I'd risk it all for the 3 points vs Sheff Utd.

We cannot hope to hang onto our best players if we are simply standing still or regressing. We have to come out of this season with tangible proof we have improved upon last season, and that means points and places.

The higher we finish the better placed we are to keep our best players and attract the best signings, and we can't keeping moaning about playing better football than Burnley, Newcastle, Palace etc if we keep finishing below them.

3 points for me.
The reason that weve performed so badly against the bottom half sides is that they tend to sit back and defend and we struggle to break them down. Sheffield Utd have no real reason to do that now.

I can't see either of WBA or Fulham getting 35 points so on that basis I very much hope we go for and get the win and try to finish the season in some style

I'm very pragmatic. Was delighted with our 0-0 draw home to Everton, even more so away to Chelsea. But there is a time when we have to be winning, and I expect nothing less than 3 points on Saturday.

The table if we exclude Burnley win and Newcastle pick up points would look like this (maximum points in brackets)

Brighton 33 -5 34 (49)
--------------------------------------
Fulham 35 -20 27 (36)
West Brom 33 -32 24 (39)

We'd need 1 win from our last 5 to guarantee finishing ahead of Fulham and West Brom would have to be absolutely flawless. So yes, it is a no brainer.

Not to mention 10 pts above WBA, and 7 pts above Fulham with a far superior GD - get a bloody win done.

We should be beating teams like Sheffield United !

But that's not the Brighton way ....
Expect us to lose to them but then pick up 3 points by drawing our next 3 games: Leeds, Wolves & West Ham
