I am genuinely surprised that so many on here are using the "there, but for the grace of God, go we all" argument. I would make the following observations:

1) He's the highly visible CEO of a global business generating £bn pa. That organisation has sponsorship arrangements with other global businesses. Different standards concerning behaviour apply to people in those positions than to those in less high profile roles.

2) it's now all but certain that he used a work email account. Just about any organisation has rules barring employees doing what it seems he has done.

3) He's 54, FFS. How many 54 year olds would make such remarks in an email, personal or otherwise?

I stand by my original position - it would be commercial suicide for the PL for him to stay and he has been utterly, utterly stupid. Would you really want someone of such limited awareness to hold the post of CEO of your organisation?

What you say in private can get you sacked. Totally ridiculous.

It wasn't said in private, though, was it? It was hos work email and his PA had access to it. It shows a complete lack of judgement. How difficult is it to run a separate email account to chat with mates whilst keeping the work email clean, so to speak?

Pretty much this, rightly or wrongly. It's easy to become blase about emails and forget.....but as head of a big organisation like this he has been a complete fool (reports this morning indicate it was his PL email account, and would be completely normal for his PA to have access to his account). If he was a senior in Barclays and did this (reference an earlier post) he would certainly be facing a disciplinary investigation.

The world has always been full of people waiting to be offended. The problem is we are now expected to live in their narrow minded world. Perhaps he is guilty of not understanding this fully. But don't sack him for comments he makes in a personal email. Get a life.

I agree, I think if he had been 20 and young and naive I may look at it slightly differently however the further you progress up the ladder the more professional you need to be. I know there are things I did 10 years ago that I wouldn't dream of doing now

Well, one thing we know for an absolute fact is that he didn't use a 'strictly personal' email account.

I've never spoken about my colleagues in that language and I'm fairly certain I would be sacked if I did, private, public, in pub, on facebook, wherever. It shows you how he sees he's female colleagues, and it's not as his equal......

I am not sure why it is relevant which e mail account was used. The issue surely is that they expose him as an old fashioned sexist "lad" which is not appropriate for the head of the premier league. It's a part success if these people keep their opinions private but what we really need is people that don't have them in the first place and would not dream of sending them even privately. We should expect more
