I voted 'remain' and would do so again.

On a purely personal level in regards to The EU post 2004 and my experiences of it as a result, I was able to live with my Czech ex-girlfriend in Sussex as a result of free movement. I was able to enjoy many, happy holidays in the east of The Czech Republic, including hassle free day trips to Poland and Slovakia and frankly if you haven't been to a Tesco's in The Czech Republic, you haven't lived.

I still have a penchant for Eastern European women to this day and I don't want this jeopardised and denied from me. They are very, very nice.

But it drops enough those pensioners start to notice. Plus the protection the state gives on their state pensions. Oh and start charging those pensioners NI, remove the fuel allowances etc and their lot in some version of little England does not seem so good.

Its not a contest, but by percentage of their population, which I guess is the most meaningful, Poland lost more than EIGHT times as many (or 12 times as many if you want to use absolute numbers).

I'd say that's a pretty enormous sacrifice.

The FTSE 250 is up 3.22% today and down 1.5% on Thursday.

It's very academic really. The FTSE responds to emotion and unseen scenarios. Just like anyone. A 'leave' vote would always see a crash initially. Anyone who saw the result knew Friday was a day to make a quick buck. I had fingers at the ready to buy Barclays shares on Friday as I think it is the bank that may be least affected in the long run. But the stock market will eventually reflect the real scenario pattern. So best wait six months for that.

I was sticking to EU members, but if we are talking all of Europe, then Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, etc lost a FAR greater % of their populations than we did.

Belarus lost an astonishing 25% of their entire population (against our 2%).

As I said though - its not a contest - just shooting down the argument that 'we saved everyone, by sacrificing our generations of young men'..

A sacrifice means you give up something , the Poles were invaded, they didnt have a choice as to whether they sacrificed peace , nor did the Russians , who we all know were pally with the Germans via the Von Ribbentrop pact until they were stabbed in the back , the Poles and Russians didnt make a SACRIFICE we DID , we had a choice , we DID sacrifice peace to come to the aid of the Poles .

Perhaps those that died in Stalingrad and elsewhere did not sacrifice anything in the fight against Germany. And of course Russian Jews did not suffer through the conflict.

But in your world giving up your life to ensure that your country is not defeated is not a sacifice.

What planet are you on ? The Soviets wouldnt have gone to war with the Germans until they were stabbed in the back, or certainly not until they had built their forces up considerably, and certainly not to defend Poland , I have responded to a post that stated other countries SACRIFICED more than this country did, they didnt, they had no choice , we did.

No politician is going to take anything off pensioners because, as we saw last week, they tend to go out and vote.

Or Hungary?
Or Bulgaria?
Or Finland?
Nor did we defeat those nations, on our own. Other European countries made equally big sacrifices.
And it ignores the decisive American contribution
And the Polish airmen and thousands of Irishmen and other European nationals who fought in our armed forces.
