It was a well-made point on another thread - the Nazis' values were undeniably very, very close to those espoused by the BNP - substitute Germany's Jews in the 1930s for British Muslims today and some of the language used is virtually indentical. They certainly both appealed to a similar constituency of the sad, the insignificant, the self-pitying downtrodden perpetual "victims" - neither the Nazis or the BNP were/are far the strong, striding figures they saw themselves as being, but the set-upon finally striking back, as they'd see it.

I don't think for one second this horrendous act is just the usual antisocial vandalism. I think it's because if you sympathise with the BNP - and you don't need to read NSC for long to see there's a lot of that about - then you're totally sympathising with the values that this country's war heroes did such brave battle with. For you, the wrong side won. Shame on you. You know who you are.

Spot on.

Way out west
I have lived and worked with Germans, the vast majority of whom are quite open about the history of their nation, I cannot remember ever speaking with anyone who glorified the Nazis in any way, shape or form. The majority are glad that Nazism was defeated, that their nation lost WWII, they have moved on as a people and a nation, isn't it sad that there are British people who wish otherwise. The Germans have moved on, why can't the vandals who defaced the memorial in Worthing do the same, Nazism is a sad episode in the history of Europe, there is no need to glorify it.

Sorry but this is just speculative nonsense. take a look at the BNP website and it's chockablock full of Remembrance Sunday and poppy collecting. The BNP actually use Remembrance Day to try and make a political point in their favour. If it was organised by pernicious BNPers then it would be going against what they stand for.

Only a little bit more understanding of the BNP is required to see that they glorify the war dead in a grotesque way and would probably be among the first to want to lynch the scum that did this appalling act.

And we can all play the substitute game. Substitute this Government with Goebbels, the ID card with yellow triangles and you have a similarity that's uncanny. A dictatorial and arrogant system that feels the need to know what undesirables are doing all the time.

Yes, the BNP are prenicious scum and yes, their views do border on the national socialist but in this instance it probably is just twats and I would eat my hat if it were BNP-led, supported or even influenced.
