For reasons that are too boring to go into, I am meeting an old mate this Monday afternoon/evening in Worthing for a few beers. I have not been there for years and he's even more unfamiliar than me. I realise it's a Monday but, in my shoes, which Worthing boozer would you be heading to and why? Ta

cheers - definitely a boozer rather than a bar. the kind of place that hands you pork scratchings when you ask for the menu and has regulars who will probably resent my presence at the bar...

For sunny seafront action, from the pier eastwards you have:

The Cow Shed, Number 24, Beach House and the Goose. Then wander a bit further towards Splash Point and Coast.

Inland, as mentioned above New Amsterdam and Corner House are both very good with nice outdoor space. If you want to wander slightly further Toad in the Hole isn't far away - it's a Hand Brewing Co pub. Or head the other way to the Egremont.

You could make a decent little crawl out of the micros across the town centre if they're more your thing.

The Selden Arms.

@Questions - is this one you frequent?

Yes, always feel like I'm intruding if I go in there for a beer....shades of Royston Vasey
There's traditional boozers with character and then there are places like that which, from my couple of brief visits, is a shit pub with a shit range of drinks. And, as you suggest, a curious cast of characters.

I'm guessing the Tirola Bar and Cloisters have closed in the last 30 odd years since I last went out drinking in Worthing...

To be fair, you have to be a curious character to be a regular at a shit pub with a shit range of drinks, otherwise you'd just go somewhere else.

Sadly, choice is increasingly limited these days.

Happy days - I'm not sure I ever stayed sober enough to sample Rutherfords :)

The nightmare is to walk in, amble up to the bar and find its Carlingberg or Fosters for lagers or Spitfire or Tribute for beer....run.
