cheers - definitely a boozer rather than a bar. the kind of place that hands you pork scratchings when you ask for the menu and has regulars who will probably resent my presence at the bar...

For this, the Rose and Crown would also be in consideration. Slightly further walk from town on Montague Street, but also has the benefit of being next to the Mahaan curry house if you end up having enough drinks that you feel the need for some grub.

Otherwise, co-sign on the New Amsterdam for centre of town and The Goose for the seafront. Former also has the benefit of their kitchen being run by the superb Yeastie Boys Pizza Cub, if that takes your fancy.

The Seldon is a pub that seems like it got stuck in a time warp. A throw back to the 60's with decor to match.

The downside is you have to be about 80 to get in. That even rules me out!

Maybe once but not any more. It has its fair share of ugly boots, big beards and chequered shirts.
