This one is controversial but I'm going on 'respected' as in established and high-selling.

Robbie Williams. Dominated the early-mid 2000's with HIT after HIT. His success can't be doubted, no matter what you think of him.

And then he released Rudebox

What about this? It's one of those songs that fascinates me by virtue of how bad it is. The lyrics are amazing.

You obviously weren't around in the late 70s or don't like The Damned.....

I've actually met Ray a few times, his drummer used to be in a band I sang in (along with Johnny Moped) so he came to watch us a few times, just don't think many people would put him in the 'respected artist' category.
