Nat West have been sooo bad.

I have been told that RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland who own them) think they are crap so they put these systems in so they cant do the job. So they ARE crap

Hmmm.. interesting, I work for NatWest in Debt Management and even I have to admit the bank has it's problems. If you care to elaborate I'll see what I can do.

alliance and leicester, when i went to the bank the machine wouldnt show any payments that have gone through on my card and they would say i could take more money than was actually there, then i became over drawn and had to pay 30 quid.

so i asked them to close both my accounts, i had to do this in writing and send the cut up cards to them. i then got a letter back saying that they had closed one account and was going to transfer the funds to the other account.

they finally sorted it but they keep sending me letters the other day they sent me through a new pin number, then today i got another letter about interest rates

What pisses me off about the banking industry is the way all those building societies have muscled in on the act, without a clue what is needed to be a proper bank.

And then they get the industry to change the way it does things - to the detriment of all customers.

One example... It used to be possible to pay a cheque into any bank account by taking it into any branch of any bank and paying it in (free of charge) through the bank giro system.

The ex-building societies can't cope with this. So the system has had to be changed - despite obvious advances in communications technology that should make this sort of transaction easier.

Abbey National seem to be one of the worst at understanding what a banking system is supposed to be.

As a former employee of what used to be the National Union of Bank Employees, it pains me to say this. But what is the point of high street branches, when everything (apart from paying cheques or cash into an account) can be done better by telephone banking, internet banking, ATMs and supermarket cash-back?

I had an account with NatWest. They messed me about so much I closed it and luckily haven't dealt with them for 13 years.

Since then I've been with TSB. As TSB they were brilliant which is why I kept the account all this time. Since they became Lloyds TSB I've sensed the "bottom line" coming more in to play and the customer service is being reduced almost daily (and soon, I hear I will be calling someone in Delhi to help me, brilliant, time to move banks methinks  )

Of course all the banks and buliding societies in the UK are working on outdated computer systems that need immediate upgrade, particularly on the life insurance and wealth accumulation side. But I would say that being a financial business systems analyst :lolol:

The quality of a bank is in accordance with the amount of money they think they can make out of you.

Low income crap banks high income and they lick arse.

Nat West - worst business bank

The following happend after this thread was started...

I rang a my contact at nat west and said I need to cash a cheque but I have no identification. she advised me to go to the branch and get them to ring her so that she could identify me. They rang her and got the manager. they refused to give me the money as THEY couldnt identify me..Isaid

"I know I'm Me, she knows i'm Me, now you know i'm Me because she's told you I'm Me"

"I'm sorry sir we need some form of identification"

The staff at HSBC, Terminus Road, Eastbourne are in my experience the most clueless bunch of clowns I've ever has the misfortune to do business with.

Totally f-ing useless.

They're all the same. Absolute arseholes the lot of them. Currently with HSBC who returned two of my cheques on the same day owing to my wages going in late. They charged me ten pounds to return one and thirty for the other. When I queried it they told me that it was because of the amount on the cheque, yet couldn't explain to me why one required twenty quids worth more work than the other.

Next day I had a phone call from someone offering me an overdraft with them. 30 minutes later after answering all their questions and getting behind with my work they told me I couldn't have one!

They are hateful organisations who should be investigated thoroughly by the government not for the way they deal with businesses and big money, but for the way the steal money at every opportunity from people who don't have a lot to be stolen.

The young Miss Bracknell (currently in Oz) lost her wallet yesterday. A real bummer in itself - especially on Boxing Day, when you're the wrong side of Sydney Harbour at 10.30pm without a ticket home.

She reports that a phone call to Barclays got her card stopped immediately and a new one promised in five days.

A phone call to the Halifax got her put on hold until the credit on a brand new phone card had run out. Then they repeated the performance with a second phone card pointlessly used up. Finally she had a third-time-lucky experience and managed to get the bank card cancelled, with a promise that a new one would probably take two weeks.

Draw your own conclusions.

Megan sends her best wishes to all, btw.

I have been happy with my time at Lloyds but being in the sector ( sort of ) I would say Intelligent Finance is the best bank / option out there for you.

Who voted for First Direct and why?

I never thought I'd think so highly of a bank, but since I've been with them I've never had a bad experience.

Have to agree completely. I've never known many people recommend their bank - usually have something bad to say about them, but I've been with First Direct for years and think they're fantastic.
I've got all my accounts, cards etc with them. They phone me up to suggest ways of saving money, allow me to change things whenever I want, and will do exactly what they say, and damn quickly too. Can't praise them enough!
