Withdean.

I never really notice the state of grounds unless you've got an atrocious view, but the ground I wasn't looking forward to was Cheltenham which turned out to be pretty decent.

I agree with the post referring to the Ground/town experience of Rotherham. Horrible place.

The away end at Fratton Park (also a hole) is appalling. Why have seats, when you can't fit in them? No roof, crammed as anything, and no possibility of decent atmosphere. I reckon its a Pompey ploy to make the home fans sound louder than they really are.

Rotherham was great! We went in the pub with the sign outside.

'Strippers every Sunday 2p.m, Roast Dinners £4.95'

As for the worst ground, Chertsey by a mile with the worst Road Kill burger I've ever had the misfortune to taste.

I agree with an earlier poster, most of the said 'dodgy' grounds have great character. And many, at least, still have terracing.

Not too great a fan of the big all-seaters, although many have managed to retain character and atmosphere. Wigan's is utterly devoid of both. And fans.

On NSC for over two decades...
The worst away experience I had was being jammed into the old away end at West Ham, it was right in the corner of the ground and a huge green-painted barred fence meant that you couldn't actually see the game!!!

:nono:

Has to be the old Northampton ground.

Can remember standing on a crumbling terrace that came to an abrupt end behind the goal, with a drop down to a lawn bowls green behind. Those lucky enough to stand on the "cricket pitch side" had a continuous row of what appeared wooden steps to perch on if you couldn't get up against the rope! As for the main stand??....all scaffold & plank seats!

That place made Withdean seem like the San Siro...

Worst ground for being treated like shit with food to match.....Gotta be the matchbox stadium......

For where it was in the the League I nominate the Dell! Abismal views from the away end. Just an awful place to be!

I quite agree re the big all-seater grounds - I hate Old Trafford - too big and impersonal, apart from it being full of scum "supporters"! Stoke's stadium is horrible and characterless
I much prefer the smaller grounds - I quite like Barnet and I also liked Doncaster's old ground. Not keen on Colchester though. However, any ground that still has terracing is a bonus, regardless of lack of facilities.
