How can you rely on an 18yr old player who has only 15 or so first team games two divisions below us to play for a whole season ??

Irresponsible is my first reaction, rather unlikely is the second

He's not any old 18-year-old - he has the physique of a mature player. Not been this excited by a Brighton player for a very long time indeed. The problem will be who his parter will be, whether Leon can at least find a role in the team by being his supplier if he can't manage the goal-scoring himself.

Actually, up-front is the least of our worries. We have Robinson, McPhee & Trolley in the mix too.

Butters was the eternal lynchpin of the defence last season - as long as he stays fit, I'll be confident that McGhee can find a suitable partner. A long injury lay-off for Butters could be bad news though.

Oh come off it, arent you supposed to be more educated than most of the plebs in this place ??

I'm excited too, but to expect him to play to a high standard every week ??

Even Wayne Rooney was rested at Everton because his body simply couldnt take it.

I think we need a bit of experience up front.
I don't think we can seriously play CKR up front every game for the whole season.
We need someone to come in and work with our young strikers.
CKR was a great buy and i can't wait to see him in action for us, but we still need more options in front of goal.

I'd back C K-R to last longer than plenty of our more senior players :) He looks a very, very strong fella. But we'll see, you could be right. I just don't feel we will have the luxury of resting him that often.

Andrew Murray looked fit as a butchers dog in the first set against Nalbandian, just as CKR has done on the couple of times I have seen him, thing is we cant predict what will happen by January.

You must realise by now that I RARELY heap expectation on any young players shoulders, it only leads to disapointment and a certain degree of bitterness, witness the current totally unjustified backlash against Adam El Abd.

This team needs a ball playing midfielder (a la Graham Kavanagh) we cannot rely on Chippy any more ...

I tell you who I would love to see down here. Sean Thornton at Sunderland is available on a free, though he's still under contract. When he came on against us (the game when we beat Sunderland 2-1 having seen Virgo sent-off after half an hour btw) he was different class. Has a bit of an attitude, but I'm sure Charlie would put him in his place. I would be happy to take him on a free & pay him a little more

Kuipers

Reid Butters Dodd Mayo

Hart Nicolas Carpenter Knight

CKR Robinson

Subs: Martin, El-abd, Oatway, Hammond, Mcfee

No way is Hammond going to be on the bench. He is emerging to be a great player.

I understand exactly why we are selling our best players and I expect we will continue to do so for a few seasons yet. I just hope that the fact that our young Albion players are going to clubs like Leeds and Celtic helps keeps the amazing team spirit in the squad rather than dilutes it as more players leave. If that never say die attitude goes we are stuffed imo as it has played a massive part in where we are now.

Maybe that's why players will want to come here. CKR came here above others because he knew he would get first-team football, and he also knows that if he has a great season he won't be held to his contract like AJ at Palace - he will be sold. If I was a good young player with the confidence in my ability I would rather join Brighton than a team like Leicester who believe they'll get to the Premiership, though they haven't got a hope.

IMO, that's why Harding went to Leeds. He's a shy lad who I think has a lack of confidence in himself so decided to earn some big bucks while he has the chance.
Indeed, although that only applies to young up and coming players. Others who are in the middle of their careers won't be so hasty...

My point exactly and I think it was a bit more than a tiny majority.
People were surprised at how well we coped without them.

Yes, we managed to avoid relegation by a mile! ???

I'm not goign to get worried. Everything is for Falmer. I agree we punched above our weight last season and it would have been criminal to betray Virgs' by refusing Celtic.... he put in so much for us he deserves it.

If we go down we go down but we'll be coming up soon with a big stadium and players who believe.

This club has performed miracles this past few seasons and I'm sure we haven't stopped yet ....:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Sean Thornton signed for Doncaster last week for £175,000.

When are we going to get a "big" stadium? Falmer, IF it ever gets built, will only hold about 22000. Hardly "big", compared to other Championship groungs let alone Premiership ones.
