Bruno is one of my all time favourite Albion players, there will be no Brunogate, even if he is played totally out of position. He will give 100%. It should not have come to this btw. Not so impressive by the lauded recruitment team.

Indeed, and likewise.

Naturally I sincerely hope Derby don't expose Bruno in the air, but If we're them I would.

This has, thus far, been a relatively poor show by the recruitment team. Last season, however, was a huge (Manu) aside success.

I fear the money has dried up, we're looking at 5 million tops for two players... The Toon et al must be chuckling at us. We therefore must sell, and my money is still on Stephens and now Knocky. This may allow our expenditure to double, but beyond that I doubt anymore funds will be forthcoming.

Ince, Harper et al will feature this year. This could be good, or... well... Not so.

If we had to sell they would both already be gone - and Dunk as well. It's just nonsense I'm afraid chap.

I think we'll lose Saturday by the way. Doesn't change that we are a very good side and will be top 6.

Not disagreeing that the recruitment team have done a fine job but you don't think we've come up short starting a season with one fit CB? Love to see one signed over the next couple of days to make me look a complete mug..again.

Yes, and if we get to 31st August, and we haven't filled both those positions I'll be in despair. Unfortunately, and God knows why it is (because to me it's plainly daft) the season kicks off before the window closes. And as everyone knows the last couple of days of the window are the busiest, because clubs and players panic. So we and others might have to play a couple of games without a full compliment.....I agree not ideal, but I'd sooner wait for a top player than buy a lesser one earlier.

You actually seem like a decent bloke to be honest, I probably don't understand half of what you post but there you go.

To not try to understand would make me ignorant of others, I will meet my maker knowing I tried.

I think you're a decent bloke too tbh... We're both proud, opinionated and care... Nothing wrong with that.

I am looking forward to the season, I guess it just feels like matching the shock - wtf top of the league you say?!? stunning football and brilliance of last year is asking too much of the Albion... We're just not that lucky, us as fans... Lest we forget who we support and what this bloody club has done to us all over the years!

Still... On we march.

Okay, agree to disagree.

You're probably right... I hope you are mate!

By no means wetting the bed here, but I think repeating last year's 3rd is likely to be beyond us. I wouldn't dream of blaming the board / our recruitment team, because they've invested well in the last 12 - 18 months and built our best team for 30 years +. That said, realistically to take on the likes of Newcastle and even Norwich, we needed to strengthen. Who knows what will happen before the end of the transfer window, but at the moment we look at least as likely to lose top players as gain them. And we have a tough start, which as others have said, can set the tone.

All in all - we may get top 6, but my hunch is that we will come up short again. Hope I'm wrong.

Well said.

This is a surprisingly toss pot free thread.

Some valid points on both sides, mine mostly.

Heheh, sorry couldn't resist, bit of the third age bursting through.

Right, time for a beer.

Brave man! Naturally I agree.

Very delicately put, and succinctly too... Something I could learn from... Ahem.

Ah; the ice cold salvation of beer... Hmmmm

Enjoy your evening and stay cool.

Not worried.

But if we sell Knockaert to Newcastle then I'll switch to very worried.

i think the squad needs someone to come in to freshen up things. static teams dont do so well partly because opponents know whats facing them but also the players can get a little comfortable. a fresh face to liven up the midfield, cover for CB and a decent interesting/different option up front and we'll be there.

Just a thought.
If we have turned down various multi million pound bids, from clubs, who, on paper are either in a better position than us, or have a better potential, how come the three players in question aren't kicking up a fuss, refusing to play, leaking"come and get me " pleas, etc?
Have they been quietly informed who our targets are, and has it impressed them so much, they want to stay?
Just a thought.

I'm always worried about the Albion. When we're at the bottom I'm worried we'll go down, when we're 10 points clear at the top I'm worried we'll blow it.

But that is all part of the fun of the fair and the fan's condition, doesn't stop you enjoying the ride.

I haven't been left with the impression that we look super-slick this pre-season, and like all of us I'd like some signings, the club hanging on to our best players, and clear early indications that the gutting end to last season has been shrugged off by the players. Basically if we lose to Derby (highly possible) I don't want to see any heads going down.

But there's always something, and that isn't 'more worried' than usual.

Starting to think our Tony is more likely to go "All in" in January...

Like last season he prefers to strengthen from a position of strength.

So maybe if we are say, within 10 points of the top by Christmas, then we go large on improvements?

Aren't we in a position of strength now?

Not worried, I'd just like less draws

Last season CH seemed to set us up away to not lose but if just 1 of those draws had been a win! It seems like we've had the most draws in the league every season for the last 4, and I hope we go for the win in the last 10 minutes even if we lose half of those games and win the other half we'd be better off points wise
