Good effort. I'm ashamed I didn't put Yardy in. Zampa's first name is Adam but I see you didn't need him after all.
Was a good way to while away a few hours!

Just looked to see if there's any I missed: SA had an opener called Billy Zulch who could have gone in

Yasir Shah (surprised I forgot him) would have been a better option than Bruce Yardley

Also to correct a couple of things, as I was relying on my memory.

SA's Waite was John not Henry (I got him mixed up with the character in the book The Cricket Match)
And it's Vincent Van Bijl not Byl

I also should have had Adam Voges in that team

I wouldn't have Roope but Cliver Rice, Derek Randall, Jonty Rhodes, Wilfred Rhodes... need another pace bowler Carl Rackemann is the only one I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there's someone else

Presume our very own Rana Naved-ul-Hasan could do a job? :p

The Zoehrer find was brilliant. And 2 Sussex players! I declare you King of the NSC Cricket Anoraks!

It’s exactly because we obviously are cricket anoraks that we enjoy this sort of thing. Anyone who has spent a day at Hove with a notebook scoring every ball has to be an anorak - apologies, guilty as charged. I used to like the top of the stand behind the bowlers arm at the sea end - was it the Arthur Gilligan? It was a long time ago!

Voges sort of slipped under the radar in his short but very successful Test career.

In the Zs we could have had the Netherlands international, our own Bas Zuiderent - just remembered him.

Talking of anoraks, how about my Smith v Jones game?

Donald Smith (Eng) - I believe he's the oldest living test cricketer, at least the oldest English
Devon Smith (WI)
David Smith (Eng)
Steve Smith (Aus)
MJK Smith (Eng)
Duane Smith (WI)
Ian Smith (NZ)
Jim Smith (Eng)
Collie Smith (WI)
David Smith (Eng)
Mike Smith (Eng)

Alan Jones (Eng)
Arthur Jones (Eng)
Andrew Jones (NZ)
Sammy Jones (Aus)
Dean Jones (Aus)
Richard Jones (NZ)
Geraint Jones (Eng) WK
Simon Jones (Eng)
Ernie Jones (Aus)
Jeff Jones (Eng)
Prior Jones (WI)

I only had ten Smiths and nine Jones so I had to look a couple up but they're well balanced teams (no spinner in the Jones team though)

Managed to fit in three Sussex players, however

This is all very well but doesn't the Second Test vs. the Convicts start tomorrow at Lord's?

We need a pitch report, weather forecast, anyone in the lineup with niggles etc. etc.

Any NSCers Posh enough to live in St.John's Wood? :lolol:

News from both camps is good - Lillee's back is fine. And England have confirmed that Barnes has been left out for disciplinary reasons but have said that he will be considered for the next test at Edgbaston.

Weather forecast is a little cloudy but only a slight chance of rain

Many thanks, a bit of cloud cover at Lord's makes the Toss a little bit tasty eh?

Sadly working in 2 separate Factories up here in Cambs tomorrow but hopefully can sneak a view of the score on my phone now and then.

He's not an England regular, I can't see how he's going to get anywhere near that side. Mark Wood probably has a better claim

Craig White ?

Yes it was the Giligan. I'm ancient enough to remember what was there before - a rather sweet wooden construction.

As for anorak. I use this entirely as a compliment in this company (of course!). Indeed, I would like to put in my own claim to anorak aristocracy: on the day of the 1966 World Cup Final, I was at the county ground watching the Sussex v Gloucestershire game. I got the distinct impression that the players would have preferred to be watching the footie, and I eventually relented and sneaked into the pub to watch the game in its latter stages.
That's how bad I had the bug. (But I never had the patience to be a 'scorer' - a quality I also had when I batted.....and with the opposite sex, come to that!)

Getting back to the Second Test at Lord's' can we be reminded of the two lineups?
They are way way back in this thread and weren't in the same post in any case. I know Matt Prior is playing...

On that day - world cup final 1966 - I was operating the scoreboard at Basingstoke & North Hants CC (where we were living at the time). As kick-off time approached, while the players and scorers carried on with the game, I biked home, watched the final, and biked back to the ground to tell the others in the scorebox all about it. I hope they managed with the numbers while I was away.

Ah, the cow-shed. I remember it well, I used to sit there before the Gilligan stand was built. It looked like it would blow over after a puff of wind

Morning Richie, morning all.

There’s something special about a Lord’s test: the ground is steadily starting to fill and there’s a buzz in the air as we wait to get started.
The good news is that it looks to be a fine day. It’s a bit cloudy this morning but that’s expected to lift before lunch and it’s set to be warm, although with a bit of an easterly breeze. The pitch looks a belter though: a little tinge of green but overall should be good for a lot of runs. I expect the team winning the toss will bat first, may be an awkward 40 minutes or so, but this is test cricket – it should be tough.

No late night scares so the teams are as expected. Let’s run through them again: England – Hammond (c), Cook, Hobbs, Gower, Compton, Stokes, Prior, Botham, Larwood, Anderson, Underwood.

Australia – Bradman (c), Hayden, Trumper, Ponting, Smith, Greg Chappell, Gilchrist, Keith Miller, Warne, Jeff Thomson, Lillee
