Can't believe that Portugal have got the easiest draw possible. Bloody cheating Ronaldo.

Would be highly amusing to see France lose to Ireland though.

Why is everyone getting so up tight. The play-offs were seeded in exactly the same way for the last world cup. I haven't heard one complaint from any of the countries involved. Why? Probably because they all knew this is how it would be done.
Get a life everyone please.

If we didn't have seeded groups we could end up in a qualifying group of England, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Russia. How pissed off would you be if Germany were then sitting in a group of Germany, Albania, Faroes Islands, Andorra, Luxembourg and San Marino.

I am completely dead against the seeding of playoff teams. However, at least now they are being honest about it. I remember a previous WC qualifying (maybe 2002?) where the playoffs were supposedly 'random' yet it ended up with all the big teams miraculously being kept apart.

The last 16 is seeded. If you win your group you will play a team that didn't.

That's not really seeding in the same sense though, is it? At least that is based upon current performance; i.e. in the first two weeks you play well, therefore you are rewarded in week 3. All of the teams in the playoffs finished second in their group, they therefore all did equally well to get that far, and the seedings are based on the FIFA rankings.

:fishing:?

1. Half of Ireland is up in arms about it.
2. The whole point is that we didn't all know this is how it would be done.
3. This the PLAYOFFS, not the groups. All the teams in it were in seeded groups, and finished second, therefore surely world rankings are now irrelevant. Incidentally, if they had chosen to seed it based on points IN these qualifiers (which imo would be fair), it would have been more or less the same anyways.

Anyways, I am not complaining about the draw. I wouldn't really fancy our chances against anyone, but at least we will raise our game for France, and there'd be no shame in an exit. Shame the Paris leg isn't the saturday though, otherwise we could take 45,000 there again and put les bleus to shame!

Stupid!! All the teams were seeded for the qualifiers and surely that is enough!! They all finished 2nd on equal merit!!

Presumably the other half knew the format having paid attention in 2006! Nothing's changed. There are of course different arguements as to how you get the seeding but as you point out, had they based it on pts then it would have been the same. At the end of the day, France aren't the team they used to be and hopefully you will get through. As for the rest of the draw, the only team I hope don't make are of course Portugal.

Oh surprise surprise, Ronaldo and chums get the easiest draw.

Don't underestimate Bosnia. They did well to finish second in a reasonably tough group and have some great players going forward. Dzeko and Misimovic were two of the main reasons Wolfsburg won the German league last year.

If they can keep the away leg tight, they have the ability to qualify at home.
Their manager took Croatia to the semi-finals of France '98 and certainly would give me more confidence than Carlos Queiroz.

The seeding system is shit, BTW.
