Maybe it can be a positive long term as we adopt a winter break?
I would be over the moon if the English FA came out now and declared themselves out. Get that boycott ball rolling.
I can't believe nobody has done it already.

Happens already and Leagues carry on ,It's called The African Nations Cup.Has it been established what happens to Championship and lower division sides that get international call-ups? Will all the leagues be on a break? If not, will those clubs have to be without their international players for that period or will they just not play and end up 5 or 6 games behind other teams?
Why wouldn't it?
We would miss a period of bad weather, have more games in towards the summer when it is nice. The UK is never hot enough for it to be a problem over the summer. The pitches would be in a better condition for the second half of the season after a break. Would remove the need for games occurring during a transfer window as that could be moved to the break. Players fresher. There are many potentially good things. What would be the negatives?
Firstly, in this country we simply never know when the bad weather may strike. We could suspend the League for a few weeks of fairly benign weather, and then try to restart in the middle of a big freeze. Or vice-versa, we could lose a load of games to the weather in the run-up to the winter break, and then have to pack it all up for a few weeks afterwards for this break, further excaberrating the issue, just leading to more fixture congestion in the 2nd half of the season.
With a couple of exceptions, ie Blackpool, pitches in this day and age tend to hold up pretty well right throughout the season. A break in the winter would be neither here nor there in terms of improving pitches for the 2nd half of the season.
As for player freshness - the bigger clubs will just jet off to Dubai or wherever to shoehorn in a couple of lucrative friendlies during the break. For everyone else, squads these days should be able to adequately rotate to rest players for a week or two anyway without it having an overly adverse effect. Hell, that's what the Cup weekends are for these days isn't it.
A winter break would serve no benefit, and primarily could actually cause a lot more aggravation if we happen to get some evil weather falling either side of it.
And for that reason, I'm out.

Just think of the DIY you could get done.
Actually bollocks to that; there will be a WORLD CUP on.
