Withdean Crowd

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

withdean is the equivelant of the old west stand seating - moaners and ppl there just to pass some time.

real fans are at away games and waiting for falmer.

£25 for a non football experience miles from the pitch sitting next to spivs is not ideal for most.

note: i dont even know what a spiv is, just poured out the fingertips.

"poured out the fingertips".

More like your arse. You've got some bloody nerve accusing us STHs of not being real fans. My 11 year old son has only ever known the Withean experience. He's sat with me through rain, sleet, hail, blazing sun in a temporary stand with a crap view for his entire Albion supporting life and he still cheers his head off when we win.

And we're not real fans? I'll take the Pepsi challenge on what constitutes a real fan with you any day, you cheeky wotsit.

It was Brighton V Walsall, Bank Holiday and £25 to sample no atmosphere and poor facilities, What do we realistically expect? Attendances have been good since the last 4 games of last season. Under Slade/Adams we started hitting the under 6000 mark and that was depressing.

At Falmer there will be more Season ticket holders representing better value, fans of old will again buy season tickets and new fans can come to games as the ticket system will be incredibly easy and in your control with the swipe card thingy.

Attendances at Withdean in League One are always the same and in terms of ground capacity and relevance to other clubs we are doing pretty well, all things considered.

Ignore it, it's Steve Foster on a moan.

Anyway, even if we sold out our 8500, you'd still be saying 'where's your other 10k?'. So whether we sell out, or get in over 6 thousand, you'll still be there whinging.

All that will go in one ear, and out the other wont it you miserable little man.

The price of games at Falmer is most unlikely to be cheaper than matches at Withdean, so reluctantly it seems that those who cannot afford to go now will be on the sidelines next year.

I cannot believe that there are some 10,000 fans out there who will go to matches each week at Falmer but won't attend games at Withdean.

I think you'll find that it's down to the product - and I don't just mean the football. It's long been recognised that people will pay for an experience they believe is worth the price. Give them a good venue, a comfortable, dry seat, a great view from anywhere in the ground, an opportunity to socialise before and after and they will turn up and return time and again. If the team is doing well then the numbers will keep up too.

I really don't think it has much to do with the price. If it did then we could expect a near full-house on Weds with tkts at £10 each.

Perhaps someone needs to point out to you that whilst you might contribute to a better atmosphere at away games, by not going to home games you are doing nothing to keep the club going financially. If everyone only ever went to away games, we wouldn't have a club. End of. So don't get all high and mighty claiming your a better fan than me because I don't go to away games anymore.

I've got four or five people who will start going back when Falmer opens. I'm sure if everyone at the ground has that, then we'll be fine.

6x5000 = 30,000. 30000 > Falmer Capacity therefore Falmer = sold out.

Looking at yesterday's crowd and comparing it with the numbers attending the home game nearest to the August Bank Holiday for the last seven years, the real question to ask is ... how come there were so many MORE people at Withdean yesterday than is usual for this time of year?
I was going to say that. The question is actually arse about face, the OP should have asked why (or been pleased that) so many are prepared to still go to Withdean.

... Football League rules mean you cannot reduce costs for non ST holders to £15 for more than a few games. ...
Not quite true. You're allowed up to four 'home promotions' a year where you're allowed to reduce the price for home tickets only (i.e. away fans pay the standard price). You can reduce the overall ticket price (for home and away fans) as many times as you like - and set it as low as you like.

Also just think a minute... How many of your friends who used to go to games at The Goldstone, have been to the occasional game or have never even been before have said, "I will buy a season ticket at Falmer"?

I can think of about 20 people who have said that to me and many, many more who have said they will visit the ground game by game. Just think about it. If those people start coming as well as the season ticket holders we will hopefully acheive something around the 17-18k (minus away) mark and hopefully sell out a few games as well.

I know of at least 4 people who will be buying ST's at Falmer and an additional 10 - 15 who used to go to "the odd game" at the Goldstone who are looking forward to Falmer. They have been to Withdean but really do not enjoy the experience. Get these people back on a regular basis and our fan base penetration does get better

How dissappinting that you cannot be constructive to this debate. Then again I suspect unless me, you don't watch the Albion. Cheer up, buy a ticket you mean sod & come up with some constructive comments as to how to fill Withdean.

I have a season ticket at Withdean and go to around 15 away games a season. All you are doing is moaning that we need another 10 thousand supporters for Falmer - what if we do sell out withdean, will you then moan about the now 8 thousand that we will need to find? Of course you will.

As you were.

It's incredibly simple, those that have attended the shithole that is Withdean have helped keep the club in business. If everyone had adopted the attitude "Withdean is an overpriced shithole" we'd all be paying even more to travel to a ground outside Sussex to watch League football.

If matchday prices are £25 at Falmer it will appear excellent good value including the travel voucher element to watch the FLAIRISTAS

Withdean is a totaly crap football experence and over priced. No bookies, no bars, crap catering, over priced, cant get no atmosphere going with rival fans. It really is a shit all round ground. Having said all that, I still go. Ten or Eleven seasons whatever it is, is about 6 seasons to long to ask most to suffer it.
