Withdean Crowd

I would have paid £25 to watch the game at the Amex yesterday.

I wouldn't have paid it (and didn't) to go to Wankdean.

Simple equation.

Totally overpriced at £25, the club should reduce prices to £15 to get people in
Reducing prices by 40 per cent only makes sense if you can increase attendances by 40 per cent.

Withdean had 6,474 yesterday. Even if the club achieved a full size home crowd of 8,000, they'd lose money on the "special offer" you are suggesting.

When "jam tomorrow" is genuinely on the horizon, it makes no sense to cut the price of third rate marmalade today.

Looking at yesterday's crowd and comparing it with the numbers attending the home game nearest to the August Bank Holiday for the last seven years, the real question to ask is ... how come there were so many MORE people at Withdean yesterday than is usual for this time of year?

How many times are people going to trot out this ignorant comment? For the 25th time, 6400 x £25 = £160000. 9000 x £15 = £135000. That is why is isn't set at £15 at the start of the season. As for now, 4500 people have paid more than £15 per game as part of their season ticket so both common sense and Football League rules mean you cannot reduce costs for non ST holders to £15 for more than a few games. And games where it has been £15 show that it still doesn't sell out. And the travel vouchers further eating into the profit margin of tickets make a bigger percentage at £15.

Other than that, great comment.

You're wasting your time mate, it goes in one ear and out the other.

Jesus, I thought this one had allready been done to death!

I have no doubt that we will double our attendaces at Falmer, if not more in the first season.

With sucess the place will allways be 3/4 to full.

If we are shite 10'000 in championship, 7000-8000 in div 1.

Simply cannot afford to go, end off. Train fare and Entry would come to nearly 40% of my benefits. If circumstances change, then be assured i will go, if not, then will continue to support from home. have supported the boys for 47 years and will forever continue to do so

Oh what a loyal Albion fan you are. We are all so proud of you.

Makes those of us that have endured fortnightly trips to Gillingham for 2 years followed by 10 years of Withdean feel so inadequate!

I feel the club should reduce the ticket prices to get people into the ground as its the last season at withdean

Have you actually read any of the reasons explaining why it is impossible for the club to reduce prices at Withdean?

The price of games at Falmer is most unlikely to be cheaper than matches at Withdean, so reluctantly it seems that those who cannot afford to go now will be on the sidelines next year.

I cannot believe that there are some 10,000 fans out there who will go to matches each week at Falmer but won't attend games at Withdean.

Whilst undoubtedly the curiosity factor, corporate & those 'few' who boycott Withdean, will increase numbers at Falmer - you would have thought that some of these 'new or rebranded' supporters would want to attend some games at Withdean? At the very least to acquaint themselves with our style of football & player names?

And for those 'fans', that go to away games but won't attend home games (for some inexplicable reason), there are not that many of you. Of the some 1000 regulars who attend away games, most of these go to Withdean too.

I genuinely believe regrettably that our hard core of fans has diminished quite considerably & generations have been lost. To emphasise the point further a young lad on the phone-in said to Johnny Byrne that he was only 1 of 3 in 150 in his year group that watches the Albion. Similar story to my son too in his school.

So what can be done?

If I was the club, I would set up some sort of bonus scheme. Give every one a swipe card & for each match that they attend at withdean or away game for the Albion, would collect a discount towards a season ticket at Falmer.
Simply-more games that you watch, the bigger your discount for next year.

No need to reduce ticket prices for the reasons stated in other posters comments.

It's not going to be cost effective to install the technology for South and East Stand ticket holders for less than the season that's left at Withdean.

But this sort of opportunity will certainly be there at Falmer.

My prediction, though, is that the perennial moaners will continue to moan ... "it's this complicated smart card system that puts THOUSANDS of people off going ... "

6400 odd at Withdean yesterday.
200 or so Walsall fans.

Weather great, BHA in top half of the league before kick off & only one league defeat in the campaign so far.

A JPT game Wednesday night at home, reduced ticket prices, but still a gate of 2,000 I expect.

Where are the missing thousands that are going to appear at Falmer then?

You must love life so much, I'm just glad I don't live next door to you. The reason a lot of people won't go to Withdean is that £25 is a lot to pay when you can get very wet. It costs me £27 as I don't live anywhere near Brighton and have to buy online. However your comment about the weather is pointless as you have to buy tickets in advance and just how much can you trust the weather forecast ?

I know what would be interesting, maybe one day you'll post something that isn't negative.

What is the matter with you, what is your agenda?

I didn't see any posts from you yesterday, after all we did win the game. But you've still managed to find something to moan about. ???

withdean is the equivelant of the old west stand seating - moaners and ppl there just to pass some time.

real fans are at away games and waiting for falmer.

£25 for a non football experience miles from the pitch sitting next to spivs is not ideal for most.

note: i dont even know what a spiv is, just poured out the fingertips.

I agree with the Bright One. Can all fans please boycott home games and just go to away games. Those of us that have wasted money on Season Tickets should be able to get a refund!

What's to be done?

Well...the club could make membership of Gully's Gang free, they could target thousands of Sussex children through schools and football clubs. They could bite the bullet and send them all free goodie bags, vouchers for games and discounts for merchandise.

They could increase the club presence in schools by sending players out as ambassadors and ex-players as Albion in the Community reps. They could offer free trips to see the Falmer stadium being built

Oh...hang on...they are already.

Believe me, as someone who has sat in the Family Stand for the last 5 years, the number of new faces we are seeing their is increasing all the time and the family stand is often full in a number of places now.

The club obviously have a long term plan to win the young fans back and to their credit they are investing a lot of time and money into doing it. I can see the benefits already. Just imagine how exciting it will be when they get to see the Albion at the best lower league stadium in the country. I saw lots and lots of Albion rucksacks (the ones that they gave away) yesterday. The interest is back. It's a great time to start supporting the Albion.

Cheer up, you miserable git.

EDIT - membership of Gully's Gang is now over 11,000. That's 11,000 goodie bags they sent out. That's a serious statement of intent.
