[Albion] Will the awful showing at Everton force action in the transfer window?

Why were we also so poor at defending set pieces under Hughton in the premier league with those players playing every week then? It’s been a problem since we came up.

I’m a Ryan fan but maybe it is an issue related to him as he is the one constant throughout that time?

He certainly could have come for their second goal, just clear everyone out and punch it clear

We defend as a team, so not all Ryan's fault, though he is definitely weak on set pieces. He must learn to clear his 6 yard box, constantly rooted to his line is partially to blame.

Personally I can't see anyone else coming in now that will be first team ready.

I just worry that conceding 2.5 goals a game is going to see us win very few matches.

Dunk doesn't look the same player as last season - why?

It seems the change in style does make us more effective going forward but there appears to be a direct corelation to us now leaving the back door wide open.

Worrying that we didn't have a striker on the bench too.

Those lamenting the loss of Stephens, Murray and Duffy seem to have forgotten our equally appaling record at defending set pieces with them in the side.

Not lamenting, I said time moves on.

Did we concede a load of unforced error goals to unmarked players under CH/GP with those wise old heads in the box? I thought we were commended for battling qualities in defence, Dunk called up for England.

Yes we did concede a lot of goals from set pieces, it was talked about every game as a recognised weakness of ours.

Sadly I am beginning to think there is something in this. He doesn’t command the goal area when the ball is in the air. Not wishing to fuel a witch hunt but I just don’t feel confident with his game.

Sussex but not by the sea
I’ve been saying that we need a new keeper for over a year now so this is not knee jerk. He has no presence at all and just doesn’t make saves, has he made a save of note this season yet?

What we need is another centre back

Earlier in the window we got heavily linked to the Turkish keeper who looks a real handful, I’m guessing GP wanted him as his own recruitment guy was in Turkey keeping tabs. It went dead when they had the cheek not to accept our shite bid, they had the audacity to ask for £20m for a top keeper :lolol: so I think it’s an area they see as a weakness.

That’d be a Delight.

Me too. Every time a cross or corner gets slung into our box I have no confidence he will claim it or punch it and it appeared Everton targeted us to that effect to a degree today.

Just would like him to have some real competition for his place. Granted, it doesn't help when our rock at the back last season seems to have lost his mojo and I wonder whether the loss of Duffy ironically has affected Dunk more than we thought.

He made a couple in the 1st five minutes today, one from Lewein can't remember the 2nd

We’re both just guessing.

We need stats of headed goals conceded per game, over the 3 and a bit seasons.

No, you might be but no guessing from me WS.

In 2017/2018 we conceded 21 goals from set pieces in the premier league, the highest in the division by far. I’m suprised you can’t remember how bad we were at them. It was talked about regularly on here and in the media.

By comparison, we conceded 10 from set pieces last season.

I’m talking about the small sample of this season, versus those 3 seasons, on a per game basis.

Not set pieces, but specifically headers.

Perhaps it’s impossible to find out about headers conceded, I had a brief look.

Even GP has mentioned the errors in his latest post match interviews.

The simple fact is Bielsa, Hogson, probably Dyche, definitely Hasenhüttl will have learnt in our first four games how to beat us, and that is worrying.
