This year has been fine...... we're finishing exactly where I expected we would.

I don't think there'll be a clear out in the summer or a spending spree but we HAVE TO hold onto our assets. Losing any of the following will be a disaster:

Bertin
Lynch
Butters
Cox
Revell
Hammond
Reid (if injury free)

We will need a keeper (Kuipers not enough on his own... I'm convinced Flinders has made a difference)) a proper left or right winger to support Coxy and a 20-goal forward..... if we don't get that it will be mid-table again.

... and if it is I won't care providing Falmer gets sorted. Because by 2008-09 we need to be moving forward or the club will stagnate.

Wendy..... he's done ok but not sure he's the long term prospect... we need to stick with him for now but if the team gets better and Falmer gets the go-ahead we will expect better results from him.

What a difference a week makes, last week we battered Scunthorpe the team at the top of the league, that was according to both managers and many people who watched the game. We were unlucky only to get one point, yesterday we grind out a 0-0 draw with another team languishing (haven't used that word for years) in mid-table and everyone thinks that it is the end of the World.

Nobody has said it is the end of the world. The thread question was will next season be any better. At the moment, my opinion is that it wont be.

I agree with that need someone with a creative spark - and a striker.

Will he be given the chance to do any rebuilding? His predecessors weren't (not for a few years anyway)

I believe the board will back Wilkins with a reasonable transfer kitty in the summer as well as I can see a few of the older pro's being released to free up even more funds for new players. It's just up to the board now to get Wilkins on a proper contract along with the players they intend on keeping ASP so we can avoid another fiasco like we had last summer.

You tell me?At least give the man a chance. No wait lets moan at all our managers as we have a large preportion of thickle fans who think we should be better then what we are.Don't be suprised if we are in league 1 for at least another 2 seasons. There's far more better clubs who have money then us in this league

I understand we will be in league 1 for a couple of seasons. I understood that last season when we looked as though we were going to be relegated.
That doesn't make me a cretin or thickle (btw the word is fickle)

Why?

I don't get this. If I lived in Brighton I would be a seaon ticket holder but not having lived anywhere near since the age of 16 makes it a bit hard.

What about season ticket holders at Rochdale....... Hartlepool, Rotherham, Carlisle.....

Do they make as much fuss as us?

Beinjg a season ticket holder is a great contribution to the club... yes but surely you do it because you love the club and does that mean you just stop doing it when the club isn't doing as well as you like or doesn't serve up the fare that you expect. If that's the case then league football is doomed.

I doubt that there are few if any lower league clubs who invest so little in the team who sell as many season tickets as us.

The very simple fact is we are not very good and you will be able to buy a ticket for any game you like next season the day before the game. Except our BIG day out where you apparently have as much chance of a ticket as a season ticket holder.

Give Wilkins the chance to do some of much needed squad rebuilding in the summer and we will be genuine play off contenders next season.

he will not be given the backing to team rebuild..we will lose half a dozen players probably have another clutch of youth teamers promoted and just hear about what players we might have had

That will depend on Madame Kelly and her decision in July (hopefully Sooner) If it drags on we wont be in a position. If we get the Falmer ok then i think the board will free up funds to team build ..

Yes, it should be better for one principal reason, Wilkins will have had more management experience and will start the season with a group of players largely of his choice, rather than inheriting them.

On the playing front, players like Cox, Robinson, Rents and Fraser will have matured and will be starting their second seasons as first team squad members. Elder will have had more time working with full time professional coaches.

Hopefully we can sort out the RB and LB slots. For me (admittedly based on only one game) I would be happy to see Rehman at RB; and Rents on the left with Mayo as cover.

We do need a creative midfielder and a proven goal scorer (but every team in the league is looking for the same and we're hardly going to be a first choice club).

No it was rubbish. What are you expecting from Wilkins with no money and a poor squad to work with?

BUT....we played at Hudders earlier on the season when Wilkins was in charge and won 3-0

one could argue that he has supposedly got better players in, but we have gone backwards!

Just a thought

From the 3-0 game:
Huddersfield: (4-4-2) Glennon; Hardy, McCombe, McIntosh, Adams; Young (Brandon 63), Collins, Worthington, Schofield (Booth 63); Abbott, Beckett. Subs: Rachubka (GK), Clarke, Hudson.

Albion: (4-4-2) Henderson; Whing, Hinshelwood, Butters; Mayo; Fraser (Hart 46 (Lynch 51)), El-Abd, Hammond, Cox; Revell, Robinson (Rents 76) . Subs: Sullivan (GK), Gatting.

From the 0-0:
Albion: (4-4-2) Flinders; Rehman, Butters, Lynch, El-Abd (Gatting 84); Cox (Loft 77), Bertin, Robinson, Hammond; Savage (Elder 63), Revell. Subs not used: Kuipers (GK), Mayo.

Huddersfield: (4-4-2) Glennon; Holdsworth (McIntosh 52), Mirfin, Sinclair, Skarz; Taylor-Fletcher (Ahmed 78), Collins Worthington, Schofield (Hudson 66); Beckett, Booth. Subs not used: Eastwood (GK), McAliskey.

Back then we had Robinson, Cox, and Revell all on form - injury, tiredness, and loss of form have affected them all as the season has gone on (none has played a full season before). Other than that there is not a massive difference other than that Huddersfield have improved, defensively at least, and that both teams have little to play for.

I suppose so, but we have now Bertin, and savage who are supposed to be better than what we had ( certainly Bertin). I am not impressed with Elder at all.....he seems to have developed the el abd school of diving

Just a few points on what various people have said.....

1. Bertin

'It would be a disaster if we lose...Bertin'

I complete agree with the sentiment, but 'lose' him is not really the actual situation. He is not our player. He is here short term, while he fields offers. I would be as delighted as anyone if he is an Albion player in August, but very unlikely.

2. Whing

Andrew Whing is on algie's wishlist. Again, agree with the sentiment and in January it looked very likely that he would end up here whenhis contract expires at the end of the season. That was with Adams in charge at Coventry though. We will have to reassess now, and wait to see whether Dowie offers him a new deal.

3. Rehman

Someone has stated that they will be happy to see him at RB next season.

You won't. He sees this as a short term loan, and has stated today that he has no intention of leaving QPR.

4. Proven 20 goal striker.

Forget it. We may well get lucky and find ourselves a 20-goal striker. It might even be Revell or Robinson, considering they both got half way there in less than half a season, both injury and loss of form kicked in. We might just land the next Zamora. What will definately NOT happen is that we will actually sign a PROVEN goalscorer. They cost a lot of money.
