But isn’t the point being made that those 3 Wales games were planned months in advance whereas a free draw in the knockout stage would leave days to sort the logistics. Not easy during a pandemic/lockdown world.

I’m not saying Southgate is a genius, but we definitely have more of a plan, look more of a major tournament side than we did in 2010.

Oh definitely agree. I think Southgate gets way too much stick. He’s very good with young players and building team spirit.

That’s my view and unless there’s a heavy heavy defeat I’d probably stick with GS regardless of the result tomorrow.

Which is more valuable in major tournaments than in day to day club management, I think. Psychology and mentality are huge when every game is do or die.

Look at Capello - superb club manager - dreadful at a major international tournament.

"That is a side to control the first hour. Keep it tight then go for the win in the last 30 as they tire and we bring on some creativity."

Almost like Southgate knows what he's doing.
