Really? He's playing well and scoring goals. We're climbing the table. Supposing he's one of the catalysts that gets us promotion - or play-offs?
How ill-considered is the thinking that we make a small short-term gain which could disrupt trying to achieve a much bigger longer-term goal?

Yeh, but you can do a lot for 1m at this level. I mentioned Ings and Vokes earlier in the thread; both cost Burnley less than a million.

Danny Ings and Sam Vokes were signed for 'undisclosed fees', though it's believed, according to the BBC, that Ings cost 'in the region of £1m'. How do you know about the figure for Sam Vokes?
But that's not the point.
The principle issue is - does his current club wish to keep him? Seeing as all offers were rejected in the summer, and he is potentially of greater worth than a quick one-off fix, everything points to the answer being 'yes'.
The main reason the club would let him go is if we have someone better lined up, and Barnes' selling fee offsets that cost. In other words, replace him before he's gone. Until then, it's utter madness to let him go.

The situation with Vokes was totally different. He was at the very end of his Wolves contract, and after being out on loan for 3 seasons or so he managed 8 goals in 42 appearances. His value is a bargain now because Burnley took a punt on it, and it was a big punt and both they and the player got lucky.
Ings and Vokes are going through a purple patch ... happens. Vokes has been little more than average for the past 3/4 years and Ings has blown hot an cold
The thing about Barnes is you know what you get, he fits well and does a job. You could go out and spend a million and you're always taking a risk, as much chance as a complete flop as there is of being a success and then the chances of getting anything much better are fairly slim at that price imo, and certainly not worth the risk.
There are exceptions of course but I'd much rather have Barnes for a million than punting a million in hope

Yeah right and who exactly could we buy for a million who has scored 6 goals this year in the Championship, way way undervalued he is a real asset to the overall team play.

So you would be willing to gamble that we could replace him and all he brings to the team because? (if you are a Barnes hater, please don't bother to respond as you think he is useless and anybody would obviously be better

Sure, but he only represented them at U20, so still has the potential to be selected for England. Not that he will be, mind.
I rate him highly, but he'd never be considered for selection unless we get promoted and he has a good run of form in the Prem.

I think you all need to stop getting your knickers in a twist at what I think - which is that he's worth somewhere in the 500k-1m region - as I'm neither David Burke or Oscar Garcia, so my opinion counts for **** all with regard to what will actually happen in the January window.

Better than CMS and can play wide 'forward'. Will stay unless silly money bid. Just because CMS cost alot people auto think we'll get him in regularly. He could be more a super sub for us instead of either Ulloa and Barnes after 65 mins or as well as them both if loosing.

Depends on how you look at it. If we keep him, he scores 10 more goals from January to the end of the season, and we get in the play-offs - I'd take the hit of losing him for free in the summer I think.
