carpenter is ruining the team

when he played alongside oatway he looked rubbish as well, then oatway suddenly looks very good when he is paired with hammond

coincidence? i think not

I think the crux of the matter is mcghee thought our current midfield is good enough for the championship when plainly it isn't.

He should of brought Yeates back when he had the chance.

Chippy as a holding midfielder can't even play keep ball as he gets caught in possession too often.

I can't understand why the best passer at the club (P Reid) isn't even on the bench.

The best fix in midfield is to play reid on the right, frutos left (therefore not exposing the defence by having two frenchman who can't tackle) and hammond / mayo in the centre who both can get forward when required.

We need at least one full back who can overlap (not 4 centre halves across the back), so play hart at RB and lynch at left to protect against poor defensive qualities of frutos.

The two centre halves (on a big away from home pitch) need to be quick hence mcshane and hinsh should get the nod over butters, who is too slow for this level of football.

gatting and carole are probably the best option up front the former for effort and ability to hold the ball up the latter for being the only player we have able to create space (even if he has no end product).

and kuipers should be brought back for the indecisive henderson.

There you go Mr Mcghee, free of charge solution to getting your first win in 8 games.:)

I'm sick of people slating Hammond and Chippy. They've run themselves into the ground this season, not least because the midfield is very exposed with two attack minded flank players.

I don't think there's anyone in the current squad who would do any better with the shape of the team as it is, so why not get behind them.

At the moment, they're looking a bit tired and dispirited - and it's hardly surprising if they hear about some of the shit that gets posted on here.

Do the players need protection of their egos, from the people who pay and support the club?

Will I get my ego massaged and nursed, when I fall short in my profession??
Not a bleedin smell-of-a-chance matey!!

When you are blessed with a professional football place, in front of a paying crowd, you have to know RIGHT FROM THE START that criticism can come, as can praise.

Exactly the point I have been trying to make. Slating the players doesn't help anyone.

I think slating the players is wrong. However slating MM for picking certain players is not. If MM picked me I would feel you all had a right to have a pop at him because I'm clearly not up to it and at the moment neither are Hammond and Carpenter.

The thing is just a few weeks ago Hammond put in a storming performance against Watford, playing alongside the more mobile Mayo.

And how, precisely, do you determine the difference between the two?

11 of them have stripey shirts on and run around the pitch. The other sits next to the pitch and tells them what to do.

When you are blessed with a professional football place, in front of a paying crowd, you have to know RIGHT FROM THE START that criticism can come, as can praise.

But that criticism is ultimately pointless if
A) you have no better alternatives
B) you have no resources to bring in better alternatives and
C) the players in question are giving their all

Central midfield is a particularly demanding position, physically and mentally. We are into the last two months of a difficult season. Players do get tired - physically and mentally, especially when they have to be at the top of their game to even match opponents in this division.

It's nothing to do with massaging their egos. It's to do with remembering they're only human. As long as they give their best in the circumstances, which they pretty clearly do, they really don't deserve to be slated.

As for what happens if you fall short in your profession, I doubt you'll have to put up with a thousand people telling you you're a twat, whatever happens. And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like it if you did.

But that underlines my point exactly - you ARE subject to thousands telling you whatever they like, because they paid to watch you "being a twat".

Human? Of course, and a paying jury of their peers (i.e. other humans). You are asking one human to not bow to the human desire to criticise what they paid to watch, presented at their local ground for a fixed price that will not offer a refund.

Should I not criticise a film or a musician who is crap, because they are bound as the same species as me?

I agree that personal insults are not warranted, and antisocial remarks and behaviour are not to be tolerated either. Threats are out too, of course.
But - tell us we shouldn't comment on their performance, that we paid well to witness? Ahem! You do as you choose, but others can and should feel free to comment - just as MY clients CAN and DO when I present my profession to them!

edit; My ego will also be affected by customers complaining, but they pay for the privilege!!

I don't think anyone has a problem with people expressing their opinion.

It's just better that those opinions are backed up with some semblance of reality.
