There has never been so many opportunities to broadcast to the world what you think. Social media, blogs, new media outlets etc etc. And the law remains as it has been for a long time in terms of what is tolerated legally (most things) and what will get you into trouble. What has never been a 'thing' is the right to say what you like and not have people telling you that you sound like a bit of a tit. Which does upset a lot of entitled middle aged white men (like me) who have been used to having the 'public discourse' all to themselves and being teated by those around them as the oracles of all wisdom. But are now discovering that most people think they are w*nkers.

As well as more opportunities to say what you think there is also more opportunity for people to push back and argue with you. Not fair I know, but there you go.

For them it's become a commercialised drag show that doesn't represent them as regular centrist gay guys.

I call for a new parade called "Gay But Act Quite Straight Pride" with floats of men all dressed normally, featuring bystanders all stroking their chins saying "yep, he is.. or is he? I dunno..."

I can see their point, though. Not all gay men act like RuPaul...

The problem with the modern Pride marches is they have become far too over the top comercialised and sexualised in nature.

It's why many gay people won't attend as they feel it's not for them, they don't feel part of it.

I used to go to pride with my son. I went because I wanted to support their cause and, honestly, it was brilliant fun. Although the goings on in the bushes in Preston Park could be a tad distracting the atmosphere was immense.

Straight pride would inevitably be a parade of alt right arsebits and shaven headed chumps. Boring, hateful and totally missing the point.

Isn't it great how we are "Tolerated" . Tolerated basically means to put up with something that you disagree with or dislike just to make life easier. One of the issues with ingrained behaviour is that people say and do things without realising the effect they have on other people. How does this sound "My school is very good, they are very tolerant because I'm gay" Not to bad eh? Now try it again like this, "My school is very good, they are very tolerant because I'm black". Not quite the effect you may have wanted is it. We don't want to be tolerated, all we want is to be treated like everyone else, sadly, that day is still a long way off.

As I have said previously,if the head-teacher had any interaction with parents,instead of unilaterally imposing her views,there might not have been a confrontation.I'm afraid she comes across of having her views set in stone and no room for any compromise.Roger Godsiff understands,and will keep the moslem vote,probably as an independent,but Jess Phillips will go.That is how powerful local opinion is,like it or not.

How do you feel about other areas of the curriculum that the parents weren’t consulted on? Maths? Geography? Physics etc?
