Why Do People Look For Excuses Not To Go To Falmer?

I've noticed a trend on here recently where some people almost seem to be LOOKING for excuses not to go and watch the Albion when we move to Falmer. Whenever the stadium is brought up, whatever aspect of it is being discussed, someone seems to find an excuse to whinge and say they won't go because of this, that or the other.

"The trains will be too busy and there won't be enough of them"

"You can't pay with cash on the gate"

"There (apparently) won't be a supporters bar"

"They won't serve the kind of alcohol I like"

"Tickets will cost too much"

The stadium, any stadium, is never going to 100% suit every single person who uses it, that's simply not possible, and it seems ridiculous to me that, after what will be 14 years of fighting and waiting by the time we move in, people still seem keen to slate the club for not doing this, that or the other in relation to the whole project, as if they take some kind of perverse delight in having something new to complain about.

After what this club and its fans have been through, you'd think every single Albion fan on this Earth would be happy simply that we're going to have a stadium to call a proper home again and look forward to visiting it, but apparently not, and I just don't get it..

In a pile of football shirts
I got quite wound up by this a couple of weeks ago, but when I analysed it, there were about 3 people making out it was such a massive problem, I really don't think we'll miss any of them, I doubt they even go now.

I tend to agree with you Frutos. Some people just like a whinge bless em. I was a Goldstone regular, went to Gillingham as much as I could and have put up with our beloved Withdean Stadium. I cant sodding wait to go to Falmer, take my kids, safe in the knowledge that at the very LEAST we'll have a great view, without getting soaked in fantastic modern facilities. If the team performs well then that'll be the icing on the old cake.

The only one that has any weight is the tickets costing to much, I think the club have to be careful how they approach this while trying to rebuild the fan base

I'd agree with you that the general trend in society is to be more negative and cynical, and I'm probably guilty of those traits from time to time. But I have to say, I don't feel like that about Falmer. Not one bit, I can't wait until the bloody place opens its doors and its always been that way.

There are aspects I am concerned about, mostly the lack of the cash payment on the gate and the likely pricing structure, but it is our club and we're surely allowed an opinion on the things that affect us.

The only one I've heard is the supporters bar, and that person was shouted down quite roundly.

I would like to be a STH at Falmer first season, but fook knows where I'll be working so might have to give it a miss. Still will buy tickets for most Falmer games I'll be at home for.

I'm dying to see it finished and then looking for a good seat - home end? sides? top tier (imagine that!!!) or bottom?

i will start going again once its open but to say people shouldnt moan about not being able to pay cash on the gate is ridiculous. The club need to come up with some pretty good options to cover this. i may have missed them but i have yet to see anything that would convince me that it will be easy to pop along if i realise at 12pm ive got the time.

Anyway, thats a different argument all together. I think people have every right to point out what they think is wrong and the club have every right to listen. Best to try and iron out much as possible before its all shiny and finished.

In fairness to the club, would you want cash registers that close to moulsecoomb? :jester:

The stadium will have other uses though conferences, banqueting, concerts, a gym , a casino?

Its not just about football. Come one come all.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to it - no one with any sanity could say they want to stay at withdean. So either ignore them or engage in debate with SICK people.

Havent the club said that we will all have to have cards with credit on that we will be able to be debited against to gain entrance to the ground even if we are on the way there, like an oyster card for travel. Havent they also said that it will be a non cash stadium so you will need that card to buy food or drink etc.

i dont think ive seen anyone say they wont go to Falmer for any of those reasons. of people would love to have more frequent trains, pay on the gate, nice beer in a nice environment and cheaper tickets, but no one is going to not go for any of those reasons (bar the last if they simply cant afford it).

has a roof, fine for me.
