(Not including shoot outs)

Missed penalties
Murray v Orient
Bennett v Peterborough
Wood v Southampton
Bennett v FC United

Scored Penalties
Barnes v Peterborough
Barnes v Exeter
Wood v Bristol Rovers

I have no idea why Bennett took it. He has already got a couple of goals, so it's not like he was trying to break his duck or anything.

Totally disagree.

Good management treats the players like adults, able to make decisions for themselves.

In fact, the more decisions you can get footballers to make for themselves on the field of play the better a player they'll be.

Totally disagree with you I'm afraid.Even Gus said Barnes is the numero uno penalty taker,so why didn't he take it?
Our penalty success rate this season is poor,so something isn't working is it!

So it all goes back to why Barnes didn't take it then if Gus has said he's the penalty taker. Again, I stand by my belief that in reality, despite what Gus may tell the media, he leaves it up to the players to decide at the time. This style of management certainly gets my vote. Who do think decides who takes the free kicks in dangerous areas that have resulted in goals ? Who do you think decides when to switch wings when they're getting little joy out of their full backs for example ?

I really can't understand the obsession with having a designated penalty taker. There's even a case for saying that mixing it up makes the penalties less predictable and harder for the opposition to do their research on. The penalties have been missed because they've either been poorly taken and/or the keeper's pulled off a good save - not because we don't appear to have a designated penalty taker. By the way, the two latest missed pens involved massive movement off their line by the keepers before the kick was taken - not that that's solely to blame of course.

There lies the crux of the matter and the authorities should look into it and ensure that the officials are made more aware of their responsibilities and duty at such situations.

Have to agree to disagree.I don't recall too much squabbling when Nobby Horton was our skipper and main penalty taker.....everyone knew what was what!!

I think you'll find that when Wood is on the pitch there won't be much argument either

Isn't the assistant Ref (lino) meant to be on the line and checking this? Surely the refs should have a crackdown on this as well as us taking better penalties.
That lino was even more clueless than the ref throughout the game. Seriously, if he can't spot that what the hell is he doing being a referee's assistant? Worst case of encroachment by a keeper I've ever seen.

Probably because of the reaction of most of the fans if he'd missed. Hasn't missed one yet but the fans are too ready to slag him off. Bennett has missed the last two he's taken and won't get 1/10th of the abuse Barnes would have got.

I was at Woking and people close to him were shouting audbible ignorant abuse at Ashley barnes all through the first half. Yesterday was the same around me. yet the big problem was that Baz was poor and Glenn couldnt be bothered, so when Barnes went up to head the ball, or chase something down, his strike partner was always on his heels. It's annoying because Ashley BArnes is just 21 is a real trier and has the knack of getting into really good positions, clearly hes losing belief - well done those who've haunted him. Whereas Glenn briliant as he was at so'ton, could prob do with less adulation and a bit more reality...

On the basis that Barnes has missed so many scoring opportunities he should be low in the order to take penalties.
The manager should decide who takes penalties based on training results, the captain should be instructed to ensure the chosen player does in fact take them.

And on the basis that he has taken, and scored two, unlike anyone else in our team (bennett - taken 2 both saved, wood - taken 2 one saved one scored, murray - taken one, missed it), surely he should be high in the order to take them?
