does it matter who took it? bottom line is we had a chance to win a game we were second best to. But had we scored it it would have been harsh on FC - A great performance from them...well played!

Choice of penalty taker should be sorted out on the training pitch....not by squabbling schoolboys in the playground.
IMHO,a failure of management.

Totally disagree.

Good management treats the players like adults, able to make decisions for themselves.

In fact, the more decisions you can get footballers to make for themselves on the field of play the better a player they'll be.

Elphick made the call as he was captain (and picked the wrong one)

Bennett didn't look like he fancied, according to their keeper on BBC SC.

I know he was a bit shit, but I'd have left Sandaza have it. At least he wanted it.

I do hope Barnes didn't bottle it.

CLEARLY this is completely wrong. We've missed about 5 pens this season, and it has resulted in players squabbling to take it.

Gus - make the decision so that there is no ambiguity. Please. It's not working, leaving this to the players on a match day.

I thought he was our penalty take now.

CLEARLY that's just your opinion over mine. I believe you're CLEARLY wrong in your opinion. :p Although your stats are of course correct.

CLEARLY had beefy boy Wood not been cup tied, there would have been no arguments anyway. :lolol:

He has, he's said it's Barnes more than once. After Wood scored his last week he said Barnes wasn't on so Wood took it. Ashley Barnes was supposed the penalty taker. Dunno what's happened today, but whoever it is they all need some practice.

We've had pens in our last 3 matches, and only scored 1 of them - twice missing the chance to win the game. I see from the highlights linked to from another thread that their keeper was a mile off his line when the kick was taken. I wonder if this encroachment massively changes the dynamics and we should expect fewer pens to go in if refs continue to allow it?

I dont know why Elphick didnt take it him self because everyone I have ever seen him take he has blasted into the net giving the keeper no chance. I thought that failing Elphick, Sandaza was full of confidence having scored, so they should have given it to him.

It helps the keeper hugely, that's why they do it. This was a particualrly bad example though, for the second I thought the ref was gonna have it re-taken, that would have been out of keeping with his clueless performance.

Exactly. After the Bristol Rovers game, Poyet said "Barnes is our penalty taker." So it makes no sense that he didn't take it today.

Which takes me back to my original question... WHY DIDN'T HE TAKE IT?!

Isn't the assistant Ref (lino) meant to be on the line and checking this? Surely the refs should have a crackdown on this as well as us taking better penalties.
