Were are now 3 days after the snow fell, and although cars are using the main routes that buses use, they have still not been gritted.

Fully understand the reasoning behind calling the buses off the road Thursday night, Friday morning but now Sunday lunch time with the roads still not gritted and the buses running again is pathetic.

I don't think the councils have the staff anymore. It's the same in most companies now, every one is understaffed, but frightened to take on more.

I expect Ms Mears is sitting at home worrying about the political implications and overall embarrassment of this to worry about gritting the roads

Brothers deny Lapland park charge

Two brothers who ran a Christmas Lapland park which received thousands of complaints from visitors have denied misleading customers.

Victor and Henry Mears are being prosecuted over their roles in the attraction in the New Forest.

The theme park closed after a few days in the run up to Christmas 2008.

Victor Mears, 66 and Henry Mears, 59, of Brighton, pleaded not guilty to nine charges of engaging in a commercial practice which is a misleading action.

The case, at Bournemouth Crown Court, was adjourned until 22 December.

Dorset County Council trading standards brought about the case under the Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

They claim the average customer would have been misled by newspaper adverts, flyers and website information about what to expect at the attraction.

The free state of Kemp Town
St James' street and beyond is an absolute joke. Leaving my flat is entirely lethal at the moment. I seem to recall when we had snow earlier this year there wasn't enough grit to go round. Have they not stocked up since?

I can't believe that the buses still aren't operating a full service.

It's over 48hrs since we had that, lets face it, mediocre amount of snow yet you'd think we'd had a 6 foot dump.

I reckon it would be useful for those invloved in B&H's winter gritting operation to be sent on a fact finding trip to the Alps to see how they manage to bus 0000's of holiday makers in & out of the resorts week in week out despite huge amounts of snowfall. And those resorts are a lot higher than, say, Woodingdean!

f*** it, I'll take my car...

How do you mean "main bus routes" The 49 and 49a run from the avenue to portslade. They don't go into moulsecoomb or bevendean as they usually do.

Bevendean and Moulsecoomb aren't really major routes though, are they? The major route part of the 49 bus route has been gritted.

Same with the 25. And the 7.

There are probably thousands of people in bevendean and moulsecoomb who can say they live on a main bus route. But should those parts be gritted as a priority?

A cabbie that I pushed out of our icy BN3 roads last night thought that the council had skimped on the grit and it's not been melting the ice, hence they've had to use more of it leaving some roads like skating rinks.

Seven Dials. Absolute discrace. Buckingham Road, Albert Road, Alexandra Villas are all im passable. There have been no gritters here at all and the roads are dangerous.

The elderly here are stranded. B&HCC are a joke, the money they make from the parking in the city, one day of snow and they cannot deal. As for the parking attendants, where are they, at home with their feet up!!! Get your green uniforms on, collect a bag of salt and help rather than do nothing..

Rant over...

I seem to remember this SAME topic last time, Would you want the council paying THOUSANDS of pounds for something that happens once every winter? Lets face it, it was a freak snow storm that caught everyone out!

Grit isnt something you can buy a couple of days before you think it might snow!

Countries like Canada and places in the Alps have snowfall worse than this on a REGULAR occation so they can prepare for it, like I said, we have it once maybe twice a winter!

Just get on with it and shhhh!!!

Yes! We all new it was coming a week before. You explain to a pensioner that it's tough luck she has a broken leg.

not sure if you are being serious or not? cant really compare last Feburay's 10-12" of snow to this weeks 3-4" which we get most years.

i would venture the suggestion they arent gritting because its the weekend and cant afford the overtime.
