[Football] Who’s not watching the World Cup?

I’ll watch the Ecuador games and probably have the England games on in the background (the team bores me to tears) but I won’t be watching as much as a usual World Cup.
Shouldn’t be in Qatar and shouldn't be in winter. I do have issues trying to force western ideas on a heavily Islamic country. If they don’t drink on the streets then who are we to say anything about to.

The other side of the coin is that Qatar new exactly what they were bidding (or bribing) for (and Fifa should have known the areas of likely conflict but still chose to fill their boots).

My main issue about the tournament is not the draconian laws of the country. By that virtue we wouldn't watch lots of sporting events.

I just want to watch football. But I just can't get my head round the way in which folk suffered when building those stadiums. How so many died, and how little was done for them. That's what makes me feel so uncomfortable.

I want to watch it. But it is making me feel uncomfortable. While I'm watching it a family is in poverty because of how the Qatar authorities treated them to get the thing ready.

Their laws are not my consideration. How they have abused others creating this tournament is deeply troubling me when it comes to following it.

It's FIFA I hate for this.

John Oliver said everything about how I feel eight years ago. FIFA are evil. They are in cahoots with a modern slave state, but they have the football. I'm completely conflicted. I shouldn't watch. I should have no part of it. I feel that I'd be letting down LGBTQ+ people that I love, but I'm weak and I will find it so, so hard to resist.

i think this expresses my view very well. I will end up watching some of it undoubtedly.

Hoping to see a goal scorer take his shirt off to reveal a rainbow T-shirt.

Well, yes. Except that Virgin has told staff on that flight that the newly (September) gender-neutral uniform policy does NOT apply to staff on that particular flight in case it upsets the Qataris. FFS Virgin.

And stuff a rainbow flag; wrap the entire plane in a rainbow and stick it to the homphobic bastards.

It was only for USA in the first place, was just PR

I can’t bring myself to watch any of this corrupt shit. From the moment that odious toad Blatter pulled out the envelope stating Qatar had won I knew that this whole tournament was tainted. The hypocrisy behind it all is astonishing - all this guff about being good for world football, bringing people and cultures together, blah! blah! Oh, spare me the sanctimonious bollocks and just admit that those in charge welcomed a big, fat wedge in an oversized brown envelope.

As for the football my support for England has been on the wane for years - sorry chaps, but since the 1996 Euros we have flattered to deceive. Since then I have watched with a passing interest but nothing more. I hope you do well in the next tournament and definitely not this one for my reasons mentioned above. So, like many in our green and pleasant land I am of the club before country persuasion. I will shut up my football shop and look forward to the end of December when it will reopen again to the strains of Sussex By The Sea.

Given that we have three of the best players in Ecuador in our team, I rather think their games will be fun to watch for us! Like you I think, I'm really not bothered about England - but will happily sit through nightly MotDs with a "players who'll get subbed off through heat exhaustion" bingo card...

Brighton factually.....
I bet the Iranian games that are broadcast back home to Iran, will be either delayed feedback, muted, crowd noises dubbed or overplayed, or all of the above.

I’m expecting protests by players and fans, in support of women’s rights.
can’t see the Qatar security letting them go ahead, but we live in hope.
