Who would YOU "randomly" select to represent the views of NSC?

I would select myself.

I would let it be known that 99.9% know nothing about much, and are making a lot of it up as you go along. Your opinions are mostly naff, and would do nothing to further the club financially or on the field of play.
NSC are a lot of apes grunting about bananas.

I may like to join in, but let's face it NSC is a cacophony of gibberish.

See, I've already stated things accurately!

I'd of randomly selected from the 6500 thousand or so that are going to Withdean tomorrow. Say every 100th person through each turnstyle gets an invite to attend the next meeting in the Portakabin, with instructions on the invite that if they can't make it, to give it to the person they sit next to. That way it is 100% random, and 100% representative of the fans views.

Sensible, and random.

I would probably just go for people who don't post complete and utter bollocks on a regular basis, the likes of Hiney, Superphil and BAG would probably get my vote.

What were you told ?
This:-

Dear Ed,

As a member of the Falmer for All team I am writing to ask you to join us at a small focus group meeting at Withdean on 11th August, when we will be looking at possible changes to the Albion's logo and visual identity ahead of the move to the American Express Community Stadium next year.

Changing the logo is an emotive subject for all of us, and we are asking a sample group of supporters for their views on work-in-progress. We are inviting representatives of all the major fans' groups plus a number of supporters chosen at random from our database. As the Falmer for All team played such a huge role in getting planning permission for our new stadium we are sure that you will want to be involved in advising on the final designs at the new stadium.

The meeting will start at 7pm, although you are welcome to join us for refreshments from 6.30pm, and will last about 90 minutes. It will start with a short presentation from Albion chief executive Martin Perry and Sara Wilkins from the graphic design team at KSS - who are also the architects for the stunning Amex Stadium.

We would then like to informally canvas the views of those present of the designs they have seen. The evening will not be a 'beauty parade' and there won't be a vote on everyone's favourite logo, but views expressed will certainly be taken account of by the Albion board when it makes its decision.

We would be delighted if you can join us ...

I look forward to seeing you on August 11th. Parking restrictions will not apply!

So if I'm right only 4 invitees attended including none of the 30 'randomly' selected fans who may have been on holiday or whatever?

Doesn't sound too scientific and not sure such a limited number of attendees will be particularly representative of the wider fan base?

Maybe this was only one stage of the process but perhaps the club could have tried to promote this on a somewhat wider basis taking into account different age ranges etc.

An issue such as this one way or another affects all fans and to have so few opinions taken into account at such a gathering seems of limited value.

There were about 10-12 "fans" there (including the representatives of "the major fans' groups"). There were certainly a number who had been "chosen at random from the database". Some invitees had sent apologies (eg Tim Carder, who was officiating at the athletics meeting that was going on at Withdean on Wednesday evening). In addition, there were a number of Club employees (Marketing Manager, Press Officer, etc) and most of the board of directors. Martin Perry said he was hoping for about 30 people to come. This suggests that the number of randomly chosen fans was nowhere near 30.

The key message in the invitation letter is this, though:-

The evening will not be a 'beauty parade' and there won't be a vote on everyone's favourite logo, but views expressed will certainly be taken account of by the Albion board when it makes its decision.

"Consultation" is often like that. It's not the same as a referendum.
