I met Ralph Coates many times back in the late 80s as he was the social secretary/social club manager of a company I worked for during a uni summer work placement.

I was into football from around 8 but can't think of any I would call a cult hero for me, maybe Keegan (especially on Superstars).
In other sport it would be Steve Ovett for me. Used to love watching the races when they were live on TV. Oh and Daley Thompson.
Used to like some of the boxers too like Alan Minter, John Conteh and Jim Watt.

Bergkamp, Scholes. Gazza. Roberto Carlos. Carlos Valderrama. David Beckham.

Dare I say it but Wayne Rooney has grown on me since he retired. I don’t think I ever realised how bloody good he was.

Shit, I didn’t realise that. Good for him doing so well after that! He was amazing in one of the old Championship Manager games…

Yep always would sign him on a free at the beginning of the season and he'd bang them in at lower league level.

Love an Argentinian AM so Riquelme, Pablo Aimar, Andres D'allesandro and dare I say it the not quite Argentinian Paul Merson.

Absolutely loved Matt Le Tissier during his peak playing days, because you never knew when he was going to do something spectacular (but you always knew he would at some point). Not such a fan of him now, though.

Peter Bonnetti, Ron Harris, Eddie McCreadie, John Hollins, John Dempsey, David Webb, Tommy Baldwin, Charlie Cooke, Peter Osgood, Ian Hutchinson and Peter Houseman.

(With apologies to @Harry Wilson's tackle who may recognise that team from 1970!)

EDIT: Got to add Bobby Charlton, Pele and George Best as well. And Alan Duffy.

The 1970 FA Cup Final is the first I can remember watching when I was 8 years old. Two great games of football. Given a bit of time I could name both line ups. I can remember all the 1970s cup finals ... but ask me which teams were playing in recent finals and I couldn't tell you :D
