Spent a crazy weekend with Matt Jansen at the Monaco GP. Stories he told about Mark Goldberg @ Palace are the stuff of legend.
I remember when he was the next big sensation (for a month or two) when he was at Blackburn, talks of England’s next big hope etc. Was he just not that good in the end?

Had an extremely bad motorcycle accident that f***ed him up. Mind you, he was still good enough to play PL football for several more years. Lovely fella and invested his eye-watering salary very wisely👍

Shit, I didn’t realise that. Good for him doing so well after that! He was amazing in one of the old Championship Manager games…

Edit Madeley for Cooper there, and Mick Bates on the bench.

I think Trevor Cherry must have signed for Leeds shortly after that line up. I used to serve Trevor's aunty at my dad's shop on a Saturday afternoon when I was a young kid (12/13 yrs old).

Cyrille Regis and Luther Blissett used to score loads of goals on Swe-telly. Fun to watch really good strikers in other teams than the big 2-3-4…

Matthew Le Tissier was a fantastic watch and I did on several occasions. He carried Southampton for a decade and as is typical of simpletons managing England over several years, was criminally overlooked because he was a luxury player.

Sorry, no, it was because he didn't play for a big club.

It used to annoy me but seeing what an absolute moron he's turned out to be in later years, maybe it's justice.
I suspect being a lazy homer who did what he wanted on and off the pitch may have been a factor.

And for good measure, Robin Friday.

I was at Wembley in 1997 for the World Cup Qualifier against Italy. I remember this story from that time - which didn't go down well and probably didn't help his cause.

Le Tissier's phone call embarrasses Hoddle

England lost 1-0. Fortunately, England managed to play out a 0-0 draw in Italy and avoided the play-offs.
