Who was the player .......

Coming out of the ground yesterday I overheard 2 blokes saying that everyone in the team played well except for 1 player and that it was exactly the same last season but we were getting away with it last year as the standard of opposition was less and that something needs to be done as he is letting the team down. I racked my brains to try and think who this player is but couldn't come up with anything. So is there a weak link or are theses guys being over critical

Dicker, Barnes and Ankergren seem to be prime candidates. They seem to be players who, when thy have an average game, some fans will rate them as if they are the worst players ever, last year some people criticised them saying they wouldn't get away with their flaws in the championship, and this season they still seem to get disproportionate criticisms. Ankergren is probably the least likely because we've still been winning, and not been conceding a lot.

There is no doubt in my mind that Harley is going to replace Dicker. I also believe we need a goalkeeper.

I am sick of this kinda shit. We perhaps need a keeper as cover but Ankergran is in the team because he can play the ball from the back. His shot stopping is as good if not better than ANY keeper I have seen play for the Albion (since 1990). Harley has not been brought into replace anyone. Do people not realise that we play progressive tactics/formations etc. It's not case of replacing Harley provides a different option. Stop posting drivel.

To answer the original post, depends, however I have to blokes sit behind me who constantly go on about Painter being - slow, can't takle, can't pass and can't run. I personally think this is utter bollocks and ANOTHER example of some idiots we have who understand little about football other than what pundits say about the Prem.

So did they not see Dickers brilliant pass to Noone to release him to create the goal?

The general opinion yesterday appeared to be that the subject of most criticiscm was Ankergren for not going for the cross for the first goal. I think that 1 of the central defenders should have attacked the ball.

Total bollox, I have heard that Dicker, Barnes, Painter and Ankegren should be replaced. I am sorry but these people must watch a different game to me. Barnes is top scorer (albeit a couple were pens) Dicker has looked fine this season, I wouldn't mind seeing COVER for Ankegren. But Painter is fast becoming one of the best full backs in the division. I love the way he plays and I love his attitude. So I can't understand why any of them are getting any stick.

I both agree and disagree with this. Dicker, Barnes and Painter have been patchy so far. Moments of excellence, mixed with moments of baffling carelessness. Ankergren should have come for the goal yesterday but he has been superb this season. My verdicts are:

Dicker - Definate Championship quality and often sees the ball nobody else does, but has serious lapses of concentration that he needs to cut out at this level.
Barnes - Again, has the quality, but can looks a bit sullen and sulky when things don't go his way. Can also look off the pace. Incidentally, yesterday, I thought he was superb. Tracked back regulary, defended from the front and scored a goal. Also, the penalty thing. Last season proved that penalties do count because without a reliable scorer of pens, it becomes a serious monkey on the teams back.
Painter - Can get utterly roasted but, again, has definate Championship quality. Suffers a little from pace but makes up for it by being great positionally.
Ankergren - I have no criticism of him this season barring yesterdays 1st goal. He's improved on last season (which is a great statement)

Quite a good summing up of the players most talked about as the offenders.

Our worst player yesterday was Lua Lua again I'm afraid. Nothing like the threat that Noone provides and nothing like the all round energy.

Dicker is an odd one. Absolute class for second half of the first 45 mins and ran the show until Blackpool scored. However, it seems that once he goes missing, the whole team seems to faulter.

If any of these players had the consistency that some fans are calling for, they wouldn't have been in League One last season or even the Championship this season. I'm willing to bet that their good moments will outweigh their bad before the end of the season.

All the players are exceeding my expectations in this league.

To be ultra critical I would be happier if Casper came off his line a little more and caught/punched crosses and Dicker didnt get caught in possession now and then but hey - undefeated !

I thought Lua Lua played some exceptionally dangerous balls across the box but the game changed after Noone came off partly because, I think, Lua Lua doesn't defend like the rest of the team does. It all depends on how Lua Lua plays when he's back at full fitness but now, I'd choose Noone or Buckley over him every time.

LuaLua was getting some stick, but I doubt he is match fit by any stretch of the imagination. I believe we have the second best squad we have ever had at the club (exceeded only by the core squad of the 77-80 years, which, after all won and maintained top flight football). Perhaps some people would be happier with the return of players of the calibre of Ashley Neal or Damien Hilton.

That does my head in, I never heard anybody mention the part he played in keeping the penalty out v pompey which ultimately won us the game !
