Who remembers when Ipswich Town were great?

On BBC 2 now.

What a sad sight to see them 3-0 down at home to Newcastle. Lots of mislaid passes and poor defending. It might be curtains for Roy Keane after this.

It's a long way from the standard of the great side that Bobby Robson built :(

4-0 now, Nolan Hatrick

Was superb to see both sets of fans join in unity for Sir Bobby though.

Sad to see Ipswich doing so shite, remember them so well in the eighties under
Bobby Robson what a side. Mick Mills, Terry butcher, George Burley, John Wark, Frank Thijjssen, Arnold Muhren, Paul Mariner to name a few.

keane went to the John Barnes school of Management. The one where it's assumed that just because you played at the highest level, that you can manage at a high level as well!

The same guy who got a squad bottom of the championship to win the Championship title, to many managers get written off nowadays before they've even learn their trade.

Think Brian Clough, What if everyone had written him off, after his spells at Brighton and Leeds before Forest took him on.

Wow.

This is roughly what I was going to post in this thread. The Wizard is absolutely spot on, Roy Keane got Sunderland to the Championship TITLE and then kept them in the league. Yes, he overspent and he bought absolute tosh, but he is young and he is still learning. I think he's going to be a top manager one day.

I can remember times when Burnley, Pompey, Hull, Fulham, Wolves and Wigan were in the fourth division...but they are all now Premiership sides.

The irony is that when that fixture took place in the BSP a couple of weeks ago the crowd was well over 10k...which is probably more than ever watched those two play against each other in the league.
