Before Sky. Just wonder how many NSC posters are too young.

The full day build up on tv from about 10.00 am?

If you are old enough what do you remember as being the highlight of the build ups?

For me it was the matches that got the clubs there, and I seem to recall they showed quite alot of the matches, not just the goals. There were always a couple played in an absolute quagmire in the pissing rain to.

Deciding on who had the biggest and best tv, stocking up with beers and all decending on the house for an all afternoon session. Get enough people not all supporting the same team and it could almost be like being at a game.

As a kid I always used to go to my Grandads in Lewes to watch it with my cousins. Used to buy an official programme from the big newstand at Lewes station as well. Watched the whole build-up (on BBC of course), FA Cup Final Swap Shop the lot .. happy days.

Haven't watched the final for 7 or 8 years now, doesn't seem to hold any fascination with me now!

The romance of the FA cup was killed by Man U when they pulled out to play in some rubbish tournament in Brazil in which they were rubbish at!!

It has devalued the cup every since, until Barnsley came along this season

Barnsley? big time Charlies.

Try HORSHAM and HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE!

Used to love FA Cup Final day as a kid. Probably just wishful memories, but I seem to remember it was ALWAYS a bright sunny day, so the curtains were drawn so as not to interfere with the telly picture. We used to take it turns with our neighbours whose house we watched it at, and the instant the game finished we used to be out in the garden replaying the game.

Best ever - I was Liam Brady in 1979
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Edit, oh and always watched it on BBC. ITV sucked at football even back then.

Best moment of this season's cup? For me:

Nigel Brake's HOWITZER for Horsham against Maidenhead in the First Round which even had Alan Shearer RAVING about it.

or deaf and dumb Horsham forward Lee Farrell TWICE giving Horsham the lead at Swansea.

Probably OVERALL it must have been Havant NOTCHING at Anfield.

The WHOLE family sitting down to watch the game. Even those who did not really liked football. The FA Cup final was like the Grand National. It was almost the law that you had to watch it.

I remember my brother once asking my nan (who we lived with) if he could go to the pictures instead, the reply was a resounding no with a lecture about how this was a family event.

Not forgetting ITV's "Who'll win the Cup?" programme on the Friday night. It was the scarcity of live football that made it such an event; this was back in the days when European football ties were only ever shown as highlights - usually after the showjumping on 'Sportsnight with Coleman'.

It was the ONLY live football on TV, and was a great day - completley spoilt now I'm afraid - look at tomorrow when it's sandwiched between two play-off games.

We always went out and played football afterwards and pretended to be the guy who scored the winner - I remember doing a Charlie George in 71 - great days, now diluted to such an extentthatI'll probably not bother watching tomorrow.

I suspect you were more adept at lying down and holding your arms aloft waiting picking up than hitting a screamer into the top corner.

Nostalgia probably plays a part but it was definitely more of an event before.

Going out to recreate the game is a favourite memory of mine, along with the walk up the steps to get the cup. Always loved that bit.
