When I was a kid in the 70s my birthday was always round about cup final day (5th May) so I had Cup Final parties, all my little mates round in their kits, lollies at half time, birthday tea then down the park to relive the game. Sunderland v Leeds 73 and Southampton v Man U (76) stick out especially.

Happy days, and thinking back, cheap parties for my parents (I have to fund paintballing and the like now for my nippers). "We know 'ow to make our own fun in them days".

I used to watch all the big match TV programmes starting from 10am. Usually switching sides over and over, before settling down to watch the game on the BBC. I used to save all my pocket money up for weeks and buy tons of sweets, crisps and pop.

TV and entertainment in those days in general was simpler. There wasn't so much choice, nor so much of it i.e number of live matches.

The match that stands out was Arsenal and Man Utd, and Alan Sunderlands last min winner. His run and smile after he scored for Arsenal really stands out.

I wont be watching tomorrow.

This is the first final in a few years i may actually bother to watch, because the competition had become stale and very boring with one of the 'big 4' always involved.

Along with the championship play-offs this season, it gives me some hope that one day, when we have Falmer, that we have a chance to be involved, rather than the usual domination of football by the tv money / premiership rich clubs

As said before, the cup had lost something also because there is just too much live football on tv now

Now listen here kids. It used to f*cking brilliant, the whole day leading up to it.

Grandstand turned into Cup Final Grandstand, it was the sporting event of the year.

For one day you had that kind of feeling you get round the World Cup when it seems the television is only showing football..

There were some amazing finals and replays. The Arsenal one above sticks out, but so does the Spurs v Man City final.

It was f*cking brilliant. That's why some of us slightly older ones on here simply love the FA Cup. We were brought up on it and when it was over you couldn't wait for the next one to come along.

Exactly, it was a once a year thing. Far too much football on these days.

Used to always be irate letters to Points Of View if the BBC cared to chop so much as a millisecond off coverage of the Grenadier Guards trampling all over the pitch playing the soundtrack to the songsheet

It was the ONLY live football on TV, and was a great day - completley spoilt now I'm afraid - look at tomorrow when it's sandwiched between two play-off games.

We always went out and played football afterwards and pretended to be the guy who scored the winner - I remember doing a Charlie George in 71 - great days, now diluted to such an extentthatI'll probably not bother watching tomorrow.

What he said! I was Charlie George that year, in the garden in Burgess Hill.

The Cup Final was unique in those days because it was live on TV. Now its just like another live game and I reckon even the participating teams can't get as excited about it - probably also because its always the same teams - until this year.

But I wonder how many playgrounds around Sussex have been split down Cardiff or Pompey lines this week? Whilst I have always only been Albion, in 70 I was Leeds, in 71 and 72 I was Arsenal, in 73 Sunderland and so on.

Happy days
