Meopham, Kent.
Gareth Southgate. Chatted to him for ages, shortly after he'd been binned by Middlesbrough. Really nice fella.

And Chris Eubank. My sister has been mates with his brothers going back as long as I can remember.

If it hadn't been my day off, I would not only have met Debbie Harry, but would have cooked a hamburger for her when she visited the 'hot snacks' buffet at Gatwick airport in 1980, at the height of her fame and beauty. However, it was my day off, so I didn't.

30 years later, I still haven't quite come to terms with this.

Orange County. California.
Worked at the Argus for about 12 years, and was in a position to show visitors around the works, met a lot of the royals, football players and local musicians, but the meeting famous people went crazy when I moved to LA in 2001.
Got a job with an English bloke who had a high end window cleaning business, people whose windows I cleaned and had a conversation with are:
Naomi Campbell. Took a leak in her en suite while she made tea for us.
Bert Reynolds. Sat by his pool with him and had a beer after work.
The Fonz. Made us some sarnies. Nicest bloke in the world.
Britney. Just weird.
Robert Downey Jr. Kept creeping up on us to check our work. Very, strange.
A few more but they are mostly b-list people.

I met Diana, Princess of Wales at a garden party at the British Embassy in Washington DC.

I have met plenty of other well known people at Gatwick inc Robert Mugabe and Slobodam Milosevic, I like to choose my friends!!

Looking at that track record, your'e well worth avoiding. Your'e not an undertaker by any chance. 2 out of 3 aint bad

Had a chat with Cameron Diaz and Chris Rock whilst on a school trip to NBC Studios in New York
Shared a flight to Cyprus with Des Lynam
Had a wee at the services next to Willie Rushton and John Stapleton (not at the same time)
Met Atomic Kitten and Alesha Dixon after they 'performed' their new single at my school

Took my school team to play a tournament of Catholic Schools in Liverpool, and they played against a young Wayne Rooney - realised this after I connected they would be Rooneys age years later and a quick check of the team photo confirmed Shrek in the line up - we lost 21-0

Oh, and I was queueing for a dump in the gents at Grimsby Town and Ivor Caplin walked out the engaged cubicle

Way out west
Have met a few famous people, many of whom have drifted from the memory, but did meet Martin Bell (he of the white suits and anti corruption candidate as an independant MP) at Rio airport in April this year. He had just come off a cruise liner from Cape Town, where he had been giving lectures, came across as a thoroughly decent bloke.

I forgot to mention probably the winner... summer 1993 I lived in 1st Avenue, one of my best pals lived opposite and 2-3 times a week, weather permitting would meet for a post work lager or two sitting outside the Imperial Hotel at the bottom of 1st Avenue. On one occasion we were sitting there enjoying the sunshine and refreshments dare I add, when a coach with blacked out windows pulled up outside. Thought it may be a band or a stag party who had really pushed the boat out. The door opens and out comes Merv Hughes and the rest of the Aussie team. Totally in awe, I was a little younger then mind, we tried to guess the names of the players as they got off the bus. Allan Border et al but it was the first time that Shane Warne broke into the Ashes side.

It couldn't have taken them more than 20 minutes for them to check in and come straight down to the bar. At the time they were backed by Castlemain and the next thing you know there must have been about 20 cases taken from the bus into the bar. Got talking to them with plenty of banter (can't remember how many times they referred to us as Pommies, they got the convict island response though) and within 5 minutes there's a case of Castlemain on our table. Great guys, had a great laugh though have to say the wife was pretty pee'd when I staggered in after mid-night. Didn't cut the mustard either when I said we had been drinking with the Aussie cricket team, probably believed me more if I said I'd just spent the last 6 hours with Sharon Stone. Oh and one last thing you wouldnt have dared taking the mickey out of Merv's tach, he was colossal.

Glen Hoddle and Geoff Hurst in 1998 at The Metropole in Brighton. Offered Hoddle my services if he was ever short of a left back. Got told off by Claire Short MP (moody cow). Met Dame Kelly Holmes during the CWG in Delhi (she is tiny!)

I always forget about him, but Jamie Mackie (QPR striker) was in my year at Secondary school.
He wasnt bad back then, but he certainly wasnt a League player calibre

Barbara Windsor. Myself and two friends, who already knew her, had drinks with her in The Collonade Bar in New Road, after she had been to Theatre Royal.

Even in her old age ... she has terrific legs.

She was the star victim of a Gotcha! that I was involved in, in one of my several appearances on Noel Edmonds House Party (don't ask!). A lovely lady.
