I actually met the great-granddaugther of the guy who "established" the modern Santa Claus, Swedish-American illustrator Haddon Sundblom, who worked for Coca Cola in the 1930s. According to her research, he was inspired by Swedish 19th century jultomte (Santa Claus) illustrator Jenny Nyström, who made a lot of "modern type" Santas beginning in the 1870s, fairly similar to todays versions:

From what Haddon Sundbloms great-granddaughter told me, Nyström was inspired by some yank (cant remember his name) from the early 19th century, and he is probably who you could consider the "inventor", though it is true that Sundbloms Coca Cola-Santa established the "final" version.

As for who invented Christmas... Probably Jesus mother? In some ways..

So baby Jesus fed the 5,000 with a bowl of mash (not potato), was shorter (and more caucasion) than I thought whilst doing an impression of Rumplestiltskin and his dodgy foot.

Possibly Thomas Nast a German cartoonist who lived in America? Coca Cola popularised 1 image of santa that already existed amongst many.

The Romans

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, public health and Christmas, what have the Romans ever done for us?

As Jesus was supposed to be born on 6th Jan - as celebrated by Orthodox Church what we are celebrating now is the pagan mid-winter festival

The arse end of Hangleton
I went out today for the first time into town and it was quite evident all the shoppers where as miserable as ff..uck.

That's because Christmas is shit but too many people don't have the guts to admit it.

Nah, everybody is happy on Xmas day, except, lonely people, people that are ill, people in poverty, homeless, the recently bereaved and the suicidal...
